HD Hyundai Infracore's hydrogen engine, the HX12, has been awarded the top honor at the H2 MEET 2024, a global hydrogen exhibition, as announced by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association (KAJA) on Friday.During the event held at Kintex in Gyeonggi Province from September 25 to 27, journalists from KAJA assessed the latest hydrogen technologies presented by various participants, considering public feedback, market potential, and innovation in collaboration with the exhibition organizers. Highlights : - Award Recognition: HD Hyundai Infracore's hydrogen engine, the HX12, won the top award at H2 MEET 2024, announced by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association (KAJA).    - Event Details: The H2 MEET 2024 took place at Kintex in Gyeonggi Province from September 25 to 27, where KAJA journalists evaluated hydrogen technologies based on public feedback, market potential, and innovation. - HX12 Specifications: The HX12, recognized as the Best Pick, is tailored for 11-liter-class vehicles. It boasts superior maximum output and torque compared to its competitors and can be retrofitted onto existing internal combustion engine platforms. - Future Plans: HD Hyundai Infracore plans to begin mass production of hydrogen engines for trucks in the second half of 2025. - Other Recognitions: Kolon Industries received the Excellent Pick award for its moisture control device for fuel cells, while Approtium was honored for its ammonia cracking equipment. - Kolon Industries Contribution: The moisture control device is vital for the air supply system in hydrogen fuel cells, utilizing a polymer composite membrane to optimize electrical generation efficiency and durability. - Approtium’s Innovation: Approtium's ammonia cracking equipment generates hydrogen by decomposing liquefied ammonia and highlighted its hydrogen value chain at the exhibition. They are partnering with Denmark's Topsoe to improve this technology and expedite clean hydrogen supply. - Exhibition Scale: This year’s H2 MEET featured over 300 companies and organizations from 24 countries, attracting around 41,000 visitors during the three-day event. Yesterday, during the panel discussion at the European Hydrogen Transport Dialogue (HYDROGEN DIALOGUE – Summit & Expo) 2024 in Nürnberg, I had the opportunity to present Lhyfe's industrial roadmap. I emphasized starting small, learning, scaling up, learning again, and continuously moving forward. Over the past three years, Lhyfe has established a strong track record in producing and delivering green hydrogen. This includes our initial plants in France and the upcoming 10 MW production facility in Schwäbisch Gmünd, set to supply green hydrogen as of next year. Today, Lhyfe delivers green hydrogen across France, Germany, the Benelux region, and Sweden. The panel, expertly moderated by Christian WEINBERGER, provided valuable insights from my fellow panellists Alexandru Floristean, Hy24 juergen guldner, BMW Group Rob Moen, Cargill Christoph Pasternak, EUROFIMA. Key #takeaways included: BMW's commitment to hydrogen mobility, with the #X5 hydrogen fuel cell car entering mass production. Learning curves from fuel cell hydrogen train operations in Germany, which highlight both progress and challenges. ##NextGenSummit2024 Session 10: Hydrogen: Waiting for Big Ticket Projects Emphasizing the need to accord national importance status to hydrogen mission in India, Mr. Amrit Singh Deo, Senior Managing Director, FTI Consulting stated: "While we must replicate the Hydrogen hubs in India on the lines of Europe, we at the moment are facing both planning and design challenges. Also, we need to balance out between pilot and mega hydrogen hub projects. Ideally, the project developers should get to decide the technology and scale of the hubs. Again, to push it further, the collaborative knowledge sharing model is very essential."

What is the role of hydrogen in the future of mobility, heavy industry, and commercial vehicles? As many industries work towards becoming more sustainable, there is often a big decision to be made about fuel and power cells for vehicles and machinery. In some cases, the best answer will be electric but it is important to remain open minded and look at the role hydrogen can play in other forms of mobility and in other industries. Heavy-duty vehicles, agriculture, long-haul delivery … there are many instances where you need to re-fuel quickly, provide immediate power, or increase capacity … without reverting to fossil fuels. Here hydrogen can play an important role and it’s the duty of every major automotive company and industry to explore the ways in which hydrogen can contribute to a more sustainable future. What better place to explore this than in the recently inaugurated SymponHy Gigafactory – Europe's largest integrated site producing hydrogen fuel cells. This magnificent facility is run by @Symbio – an equal joint venture between our friends at @Michelin @Stellantis and @Forvia. Amid the picturesque setting in #SaintFons, I had the chance to see Europe’s biggest white room and hear how Symbio is developing and manufacturing fuel cells for a variety of different vehicle categories and use case.   I was impressed by the processes and the innovative use of technology for testing and manufacturing. As an engineer, we know what is possible. But it’s always pleasing to see such technological sophistication and innovation on display, up close and personal.  What I saw and experienced was truly cutting edge. I was also incredibly impressed to see how Symbio is able to create fuel cells at scale, with minimum waste. Overall, I’m incredibly encouraged by what I saw and heard. And I’m more convinced than ever that partnerships – including between the public and private sector – can and should play a key part in ensuring that we can achieve positive progress towards #sustainability in a way that is good for business, the economy and society.
