MONITORING: The 8.7 earthquake that struck off Russia’s eastern Kamchatka region on July 29 is tied for being the sixth-strongest recorded in history. Fortunately, minimal damages have been reported and tsunami warnings and advisories for Alaska, Japan, Hawaii, and surrounding areas have been downgraded or lifted. However, Airlink will continue to monitor the situation as concern for potentially deadly aftershocks remains. This is the strongest earthquake since the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami, which Airlink responded to. We are in touch with key partners on any potential support, especially for communities in the Pacific that have limited response capabilities.
