Just received my first genome sequencing report. Here are my key takeaways: 1. Costs have plummeted Genome sequencing once cost millions of dollars, but now you can have your full genome sequenced remotely for just $399—a massive leap in accessibility. 2. Privacy considerations High-profile scrutiny around direct-to-consumer genetic tests (like those offered by 23andMe) has pushed many labs to commit to stronger privacy safeguards. Most will delete your data upon request once you’ve received your results. 3. Family planning Discovering whether or not I am a carrier for a genetic condition is valuable for future family planning—one of the most immediate and significant ways people can benefit from these insights. 4. Looking ahead My report underscores how individualized healthcare is becoming. Platforms that combine genetic data with other health metrics will likely drive the next wave of truly personalized medicine. Expect to see more on this from Universal Health Token and our partners, like GOQii!
