Today, in one of the largest tech acquisitions in public safety history, Aerodome has officially joined forces with Flock Safety. In less than 18 months, Aerodome has built the most advanced drone-as-first-responder system in the country. More importantly, we have deployed it in numerous cities nationwide where it has quantifiably saved lives, reduced crime, and lowered response times. When we first partnered with Flock Safety earlier this year, it quickly became clear that the connection between the two companies was stronger than anything I had ever experienced. In recent months, customers who deployed Aerodome and Flock Safety have massively increased their apprehension of stolen vehicles. Just last week, one of our agencies caught two separate stolen vehicles in different parts of the city with just a single drone flight. Combining Flock’s license plate reading cameras and gunshot detection systems with Aerodome’s rapid response drone capabilities is an unmatched crime-stopping and life-saving combination. I am so proud of what this team has done in such a short time, but I am even more excited about what we will do now that we are a part of Flock Safety. When Garrett Langley talked to me about joining forces, we both joked about how in our industry, companies always buy other companies just to let them wither on the vine and die. He said something to me that immediately got me excited about working with him. “Rahul, I want us to go ten times faster.” It’s easy to believe him when Flock has built and launched more products this decade in the public safety space than anyone else. With Flock’s immense resources and expertise, we are increasing our product-building capacity more than tenfold. In fact, we are committed to hiring over one hundred new engineers for our aviation technology team, a team that will continue to advance the American drone industry and build the next generation of public safety air support. When preparation and opportunity combine, anything is possible.

Preparing for - and responding to - UAS safety events can be challenging. In the most recent installment of our safety blog, we help clarify the types of events and the thresholds for reporting for both the Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB.

When I was in Boy Scouts as a kid, the "be prepared" motto was something I heard regularly and it stuck with me. As an adult, I was introduced to its sibling - "decide in advance". The two of these have kept me out of a number of difficult spots. Just like you can't feasibly "be prepared" for every eventuality, you can't "decide in advance" for everything. There are a lot of things you CAN "decide in advance", though, and it takes a lot of the stress out of difficult situations when you have decisions pre-made - such as how you'll respond to incidents, who you will bring in to help, how you'll communicate, and a commitment to cooperation. Our Anzen Unmanned blog provides a foundation for deciding in advance and being prepared for UAS event, accident, and incident reporting and cooperation. We've seen examples where this approach has turned something that would have created a lot of anxiety and churn for a customer into a positive interaction with regulators and, ultimately, built relationships that paid off in unexpected ways.

The explanation comes as a result of the "Civil Unmanned Aircraft Operation Safety Management Rules" (CCAR-92).

Last week, a De Havilland CL-415 water bomber was damaged after it collided with a drone whilst fighting the wildfires that have and continue to consume neighbourhoods around Los Angeles including Pacific Palisades and Altadena. The aircraft, which had been operating in a so-called Federal Aviation Administration Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone on Thursday January 9th, suffered material damage to the leading edge of a wing. The collision brings the need for de-conflicted airspace into greater focus, especially as the aviation industry looks towards the arrival and subsequent commercial scaling of autonomous uncrewed aircraft systems. “This is a highly unfortunate situation. The FAA issues TFRs for good reasons and the public needs to respect these important restrictions for public safety as well as the protection of first responders,” Tamara Casey, founder of AURA Network Systems tells Revolution.Aero. Jia Xu, CEO of SkyGrid, a Boeing joint venture developing third-party scalable infrastructure for low-altitude air traffic management, agrees with Casey. “Right now, we lack comprehensive systems to monitor and mitigate non-cooperative aircraft in real-time conditions at lower altitudes, leaving gaps in enforcement and prevention,” he tells us. “This is a challenge that both industry and the public sector must work together to solve.” Read full: https://lnkd.in/ehEPGFGQ

Maintaining RPAS operational conformance is crucial. Non-compliance with CASA operational procedures can void all insurances, posing a significant risk. At RemSense, we continuously revise and update our operational standards, including our RPAS Operations Manual, to stay aligned with procedural changes and enhance our capabilities. Currently we are working on the integration and testing of the Raindance R4 Incendiary device on an RPAS. As CASA has yet to publish official guidance for RPAS operators carrying Dangerous Goods (DG), we developed and submitted our own procedures. These have now been approved for operations. CASA approval: "The RemSense manual meets all requirements for dropping incendiary devices as listed in the General Exceptions in Part 1; 1.1.5 of the ICAO Technical Instructions. Complying with ICAO Technical Instructions is mandated by Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) 92.020."
