This week, we were honored to be included in the list of 25 semi-finalists to receive U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchase Pilot Prize- with $50,000 going to each to help scale a diversity of carbon dioxide removal approaches. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchase Pilot Prize allows companies to compete for the opportunity to deliver carbon dioxide removal credits directly to DOE. Up to 10 semifinalist teams will be chosen as grand prize winners, with each team receiving a Carbon Dioxide Removal Credit Purchase Agreement award of up to $3 million for the sale of their credits to DOE. Congrats to all the companies selected! https://lnkd.in/eF-e2wxh

Congrats to our portfolio companies — Heirloom, Charm Industrial, Vycarb, and Vaulted Deep who all made the DOE's short list of Phase 1 semifinalists! Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchase Pilot Prize allows companies to compete for the opportunity to deliver carbon dioxide removal credits directly to DOE. This is such an important initiative to ensure carbon credits are of a high quality, and will ultimately help restore trust in carbon markets. https://lnkd.in/drEkPd4p

⚡️Great write-up on future demand of onshore power from Max Tingyao Lin at S&P. And happy to be quoted on the EU policy approach. I agree with Tristan Smith - shoreside energy while at berth is a no-brainer for emissions reductions. Policymakers are increasingly recognizing this. Therefore, we should expect more regulation globally as we have seen in California and, more recently, in Europe with FuelEU and AFIR.

In a move to roll back environmental policies, former President Donald Trump has put US clean hydrogen initiatives on hold. This decision is part of his broader plan to dismantle elements of the Green New Deal. The suspension affects key clean hydrogen support programs, which were pivotal in advancing the country's transition to a low-carbon future. While this decision has raised concerns among environmental advocates, it underscores the ongoing political tension surrounding the future of clean energy policies in the US. As the world moves towards decarbonization, these shifts in policy could have significant long-term impacts on the development of hydrogen infrastructure and technologies. #CleanEnergy #Hydrogen #SustainableFuture #GreenNewDeal #USPolicy #Decarbonization #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #HydrogenEconomy

The EU Commission published a Recommendation and associated SWDs last week on how Member States can speed up permitting procedures for renewable energy and related infrastructure projects. As discussed by Alison Hardiman PhD, BL and the Philip Lee Climate and Environment team, this is a challenging call to action for Member States with little practical guidance for the prospective developers and decision makers grappling with this quickly evolving legal framework. The Biden-Harris Administration has announced $150 million to fund 67 energy efficiency and clean energy projects across federal facilities in 28 states and six international locations, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. Supported by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these projects will utilize technologies like geothermal heating, microgrids, and renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving over 1 billion gallons of water annually, and saving taxpayers $41.7 million annually. The initiative also supports disadvantaged communities, creates jobs, and boosts American manufacturing while demonstrating leadership in tackling the climate crisis. Last year, the European Commission approved under the EU state aid rules two German measures to support ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in decarbonizing its steel production processes and accelerating its uptake of renewable hydrogen. Germany plans a $597 million (550 million euros) direct grant and conditional payment mechanism of up to $1.57 billion (1.45 billion euros) to support ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe. Germany is among the few countries that has a National Hydrogen Strategy. Hydrogen has an important role in decarbonisation of industries like steel and heavy transport.
