Engage with your network on LinkedIn
- [Instructor] Building a strong LinkedIn network is just the beginning. To get the most out of your connections, it's important to stay active and engage with your network. In this video, we'll explore how to do that effectively. Right now inside of Julie's account, I'm going to navigate to the Home icon, which brings me to her feed. Now, she's not going to have a lot in her feed because she hasn't connected with a lot of people yet. However, here we can see that she does have a post by Sarah Greer, one from a company, down below, one from LinkedIn News, and so on. Engagement is the key to visibility on LinkedIn. When you interact with others by commenting, sharing, or creating your own posts, you show up in their feeds, and even in the feeds of their connections. This helps you build relationships, grow your network, and position yourself as an active and knowledgeable professional in your field. Let's start with a simple but powerful way to engage, and that is commenting on posts. Here on the homepage, you'll see updates from your network, and right here I can see this one by Sarah Greer. I can click here to see more and see the whole post. It's letting me know about farms that are using solar energy. Now, in this situation, let's say that Julie was part of this collaboration for this, and she sees this post and wants to go ahead and comment on it. Now, in order to do so, she can go down here to Comment, click here, and then type in your comment. (keyboard keys clicking) So I type, "This is exciting! KinetEco is so happy to be part of this collaboration," and I comment. And as you can see, it now puts that right down here in this thread replying to the post that Sarah had. So this is another great way to engage with your network. Make sure you write something meaningful, like your perspective on the topic, a question, or a compliment. Now, thoughtful comments can start conversations and make you more visible to the poster and to their network. Now, another quick way to engage is by reacting to posts. So you can click one of the reaction buttons. Here underneath Sarah's post, I can see Like, but if I hover over it, we have different ones. We have Like, Celebrate, Support, Love, Insightful, and Funny. In this case, I just want to like it, so I'm going to go ahead and like it. And now it adds a like to that post, again, helping Sarah's post and pushing it out there some more people can see it. So Sarah posted this, and it went out to her network. But if I want to repost it, that will help push it out to my entire network, and this is a great way to have your connections interact and define new connections beyond the ones that you're already connected to. I'm going to go ahead and push Repost, and you can post it with your thoughts or just repost the thing by itself. I'll put Repost with thoughts, I'm going to put in here, "This is a collaboration (keyboard keys clicking) that KinetEco is excited about." When I'm done, I'll click Post. And now it will repost that message by Sarah in Julie's feed out to her network. Now, one of the best ways to engage is by creating your own content. From the homepage here, up at the top, you can click on Start a post. And if I do, it opens up this box where I can begin typing out a post. You can include images here, you can include videos, calendar. You can click here to open this up, and there's even more, you can celebrate an occasion. They have templates for celebrating certain things. If I go back down here, you can show you're hiring, create a poll, add a document, and find an expert. So there's a lot you can do inside of here. Now, they also have the emojis here that you can use. I'm going to go ahead and paste in a post that I already typed out for Julie just to save some time. So I went on here and put "Harnessing the power of ocean waves for renewable energy." In another tab, this is an article that Julie found, "How to turn ocean waves into renewable energy." And I think this is a great way to engage with your network. If you find something that you think is a helpful or useful resource, share that with your network, maybe they'll appreciate it as well. So here, Julie not only posts this article, but also post some information about it, and then at the end, has a call to action, "What are your thoughts on wave energy as part of the future of renewables?" I'm going to go ahead and post that, (digital tone blips) and now that will show up in Julie's feed. You can see it here. When people click More, they'll be able to see that entire post. It also adds on that article because I put the link right inside of that article. Now, engagement doesn't always have to be about commenting or posting. You can also connect by celebrating others' achievements. If someone in your network shares a new job announcement or a work milestone, click Congratulate, and send them a quick note. These small actions go a long way in strengthen your relationships. Remember on here, when you click this, one of those options when you go +, is Celebrate an occasion. And there are some here that you can use to start those posts. Now, if you really get brave, up here at the top, you also have the ability to write an article. If I click here on Write article, this will bring you to the publishing page where you can easily add an image, a title, and then start typing out your article, and it will appear as a professional-looking article on your LinkedIn profile. Once you get a little bit more brave, this is something I highly recommend, share your expertise with your network. For now, I'm going to back up. Engaging with your LinkedIn network is about more than just being active. It's about building relationships and adding value. Take a few minutes each week to comment, react, or post, and you'll find your LinkedIn presence growing stronger over time. Now, it's your turn. Start by leaving a thoughtful comment, sharing an interesting post, or creating your own update. See how engagement can help you stand out and connect with others.
