- [Instructor] Let's talk about the role of the chief privacy officer, or the CPO. This is a new-ish role that is distinct from the role of the chief information security officer, or the CISO. CISOs typically focus on infrastructure security, while CPOs build a privacy program using the security apparatus as a starting point. I've led several programs and advised several others, and understanding these two roles is pretty critical. Done correctly, you will benefit from the security apparatus a good CISO will put in place when you try and build a privacy program with tools, training, and practices. Done poorly, though, you might end up with turf wars and confusion from both the privacy teams and the security teams, not to mention, you will create a poor customer experience for your internal stakeholders.
