The Reignmakers product has seen 𝟵𝟬𝟬𝟬-𝟭𝟯,𝟬𝟬𝟬 monthly unique buyers in 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, with monthly total transactions ranging from ~𝟮𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟯𝟮𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬. The total sales in USD terms ranged from ~$𝟮.𝟲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 $𝟳.𝟱𝗺. In August 2024, the platform has been discontinued. 𝗧𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀: 1. DraftKings Reignmakers had strong numbers in 2024, but legal proceedings forced them to shut down the proposition.     2. Surprisingly, a small legal suit with claimants having losses of $14,000 was enough for DraftKings to shutter Reignmakers.     3. This is at a time when crypto regulation is clearer, which would lead one to presume that DraftKings did not think Reignmakers was a fight worth having.     4. DraftKings have a huge gambling operation to protect. This market is booming in the U.S. and perhaps concentrating their efforts there.     5. Polygon will be disappointed to see a huge name no longer using their network. Following Starbucks Odyssey closing down and Nike dropping efforts, it doesn’t bode well for some of the big deals they signed in the last crypto cycle.     6. NFT/'web3' cleanup: DraftKings was sued under the claim that their NFTs were unregistered securities. The Judge applied the Howey test and allowed the lawsuit to go forward. DraftKings shut their NFT collection and platform down THE NEXT DAY to avoid discovery and the possible impacts. The Howey test worked. Reignmakers, which the company launched in 2021. The decision to wipe the entire program, says DraftKings, was not made lightly, but was forced "due to recent legal developments." "DraftKings has not yet specified what "recent legal developments" are troubling its now dead Reignmakers product. The company was sued in U.S. District Court in 2023 by a Reignmakers player named Justin Dufoe, who accuses the company of dealing in unregistered securities, of taking advantage of relatively unsophisticated "retail investors," and of failing to market and support Reignmakers to the degree necessary to return to its users the expected financial benefits. DraftKings filed a motion in September to dismiss Dufoe's complaint, but that motion was denied on July 2. I'm not a huge fan of these "state of crypto" reports because they rarely contain original insights and typically just rehash stuff that everyone already knows. That said, this a16z State of Crypto report that dropped today is straight 🔥🔥 🔥 Some key takeaways: - Crypto usage is at an all-time high, with 220 million addresses interacting on-chain last month, showing solid growth in user engagement. - Stablecoins continue to drive adoption, becoming a critical financial tool as transaction fees hit record lows on networks like #Solana and #Ethereum's layer-2s. - Interestingly, the report notes a drop in active developers, suggesting that while adoption rises, attracting and retaining builders remains a challenge, particularly in regions grappling with regulatory uncertainty. - One thing that stands out is the index created by a16z, which tracks key metrics beyond just financial cycles—highlighting how product innovation and technological progress don’t always align with market prices. Central banks are developing the next iteration of money, they're called Central Bank Digital Currencies or #CBDCs. Despite championing decentralisation, some crypto leaders are openly helping develop CBDCs. CBDCs are a nightmare for privacy, freedoms and basic civil rights, as they come with invasive capabilities. The thing is, we don't need CBDCs for fast, low-fee, accessible transactions for all.
