What are the best practices for career pathing non-managerial employees?
The reality is, technology is changing the world of work every day. The role you have 10 years from now may not even exist today. Take the time to get clear on your purpose and the type of impact you want to make instead of confining yourself to a specific title or function - this will make it easier for you to adapt and learn new skills. The worst thing to do is become stale. For me, I knew I wanted to support people. I started as an HR Manager. Now I’m the CEO of my own employee experience company.

From the Ground Up
Coming into a small compounding pharmacy start-up, there was not an established corporate identity. The company had no purpose statement, core values, training program or talent strategy to effectively build the business.
The first step was identifying the true forumla to success : engaged employees follow effective processes and technology, which drive customer satisfaction and drive financial results. For this firm to be successful, we first needed engaged employees.

The first step was identifying the true forumla to success : engaged employees follow effective processes and technology, which drive customer satisfaction and drive financial results. For this firm to be successful, we first needed engaged employees.
With this in mind, I created the company's core values, talent management philosophy, interviewing strategy and tools, purpose statement, marketing collateral and even the company website by partnering with executive leadership and key company stakeholders, asking key strategic questions, project mapping strategies and of course executing on the feedback I recieved.
Building an engaged, high performing workforce takes years not months and as such this project is ongoing, however I am extremely confident in the work achieved thus far.Other creatorsSee project -
The Barracuda Who? An Identity Crisis.
-
Upon my arrival as an intern with The Barracuda Group, there was a general lack of firm identity as a vision, mission statement along with a training manual were non-existent. The lack of said pieces resulted in a lack of consistent talent management and clear employee expectations as well as inconsistent talent management, which resulted in high turnover. Being an industry dependent on customer service, a steadily fluctuating team did not aid in this firm's service or reputation.

The lack of said pieces resulted in a lack of consistent talent management and clear employee expectations as well as inconsistent talent management, which resulted in high turnover. Being an industry dependent on customer service, a steadily fluctuating team did not aid in this firm's service or reputation.
With the partnership of a senior firm member, I composed a training manual that outlines the identity of The Barracuda Group via a mission and vision statement, and roles of an entry level employee.
This manual aided in the internal growth of the firm. Within two weeks, The Barracuda Group tripled in size with a decrease in bad turnover from 65% to 22% over the next 4 months. The manual is still utilized by this firm as a staple to training and development and talent management.
