Few agencies without a technical lead are able to get by (and none thrive). Relying on contractors can be a double-edged sword: they bring specialized skills but often lack a cohesive vision that aligns technology with your customer’s long-term goals. This disconnect results in software bloat, where unnecessary features and technical debt pile up. The pain is real: without a consistent, forward-thinking approach, your business is at risk of compounding technical debt that will stifle innovation. Don’t let short-term fixes lead to long-term problems. It’s time to rethink how you approach technology, ensuring it supports—not stifles—your growth.

Polls can be a cheat code for earned media, and a great way to build authority. But there are levels to this. Here's how one of the best I've seen - Capital One - does it. (And what I'd do differently to increase earned coverage). Led by Shena Ashley, PhD, Capital One's Insights Center is a masterclass in leveraging polls to create unique insights that would do incredibly well via earned syndication. Here’s what they do great: ✅ Content that sticks: Crucial issues > fleeting trends. Focusing on topics like financial stability, mobility, and entrepreneurship, it's easier to rationalize investment on topics with a longer shelf life. Their insights + stories can drive coverage for months to come. ✅ Visual storytelling: Data doesn’t have to be dry, and Capital One presents original insights through clear and eye-pleasing visuals that are easy to understand. Publishers like charts, they love colorful charts, and they LOVE colorful charts that are easy to understand. Check, check, check. ✅ Strong methodologies and extensive polling numbers: Capital One frequently involves 7k+ participants in their studies - they are not half a**ing it. Well explained methodologies are table stakes to get your polls covered, and Capital One does a great job outlining their data collection process, sample size, and research methodologies. ✅ Easy to steal: Each report has multiple easy to take stories/soundbites, and are also written as full pieces of content, which can be taken as whole. Finally --- if I could change one thing... Add a byline. Brand publishing NEEDS a byline - no news outlet wants to cover a story that can't be credited back to a human. All in all, polls can be incredibly valuable for driving earned syndication - check out Capital One's Insights Center in comments for killer examples.

Plex's Upcoming App Redesign is a Big Swing at Going Legit: An anonymous reader shares a report: Plex is beginning to test its "newly reimagined Plex experience," which will be available first on mobile and is coming to TV platforms "very soon." Plex says the new experience has been in development for almost two years and is "designed to bring everything you love into one seamless interface." But don't worry -- while the new version of the app is currently missing some features, Plex says it will be "closing those gaps" and will keep the current app available during the preview, which will hopefully prevent a Sonos-like debacle. A big change for the new app is redesigned navigation that more clearly delineates between media you might have on your Plex server and the company's streaming and on-demand offerings. The bottom bar has dedicated tabs for your media libraries, live TV, and on-demand movies and shows. The Watchlist, which lets you make a list of things you want to watch, has a spot at the top of the app. And artwork is shown more prominently. Read more of this story at Slashdot.

At InVision, we worked with some amazing software vendors. I know I've talked about most of these in the past; but, I just want to give a final shout-out to some of my favorites: * LaunchDarkly - feature flags completely changed the way we approached product development. And, allowed us to all but eliminate our incidents and outages (shameless plug for my own book: https://lnkd.in/ehxiy6bY). * Postmark - delivered all of our outbound emails and powered our inbound reply-by-email workflows with flawless uptime and befuddling performance. * Pusher - powered our real-time collaboration via WebSockets, bringing our UIs to life and keeping browsers synchronized. * Intergral | FusionReactor APM - gave us deep insights into our JVM performance, allowing us to track down SQL, API, and processing bottlenecks. * Datadog - truly world-class metrics, alerting, and monitoring. * Adobe ColdFusion / Lucee CFML - the programming language and application server that allowed us to move fast, keep things simple, respond to users, and build wonderful things. * Cloudflare - your CDN, WAF, and web workers took a beating so that our origin servers could stay online. * Amplitude - connected me to the users by giving us insight into what our users were actually doing (or not doing). At one point, I think we had over 300 different SaaS subscriptions; so this list is faaaaar from exhaustive. And, I'm sure I'm forgetting other beloved services. And, many of our teams worked with entirely different technologies. This is just my little corner of the organization. And, I couldn't have done it without them. Thank you so much! ❤️

HITRUST chose Vanta as the first pre-built HITRUST e1 solution, which means Vanta comes "out of the box" with the necessary controls, documents, and policies for an e1 assessment and eliminates the manual “do-it-yourself” approach that other platforms require. Up to 80% of requirements are automated by: *️⃣ Guidance around requirements: 44 new controls and 72 automated tests to ensure comprehensive and continuous compliance. *️⃣ Documents and policy templates: 80 new documents and 10 policy addendums to outline practices around managing sensitive data. *️⃣ Automated evidence collection: With over 300 integrations, Vanta automatically and continuously collects evidence from an organization’s technology stack. Our platform also applies overlapping, implemented controls from other supported frameworks, including up to 50% of SOC 2 and ISO 27001, to eliminate duplicative work across compliance programs. Coming soon, our partnership with HITRUST will expand into an integration with their audit portal, MyCSF, so customer evidence is transfered automatically from Vanta to MyCSF, further streamlining the HITRUST validation process Really excited for this collaboration!

This is a cool project, and another example of the emerging "replace stateful storage with S3" trend. I do wonder at what point someone will package this sort of thing up into a FUSE filesystem to make it generally usable across existing services. Or maybe every service has unique enough needs that it's better to handle it custom each time. https://lnkd.in/etcVBfVf

“Codegen tools are broken.” They churn out boilerplate, need endless fixes, and rarely feel… smart. So when I asked Codebuff to create a browser-based Minecraft game, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I just told it: 👉 “generate a basic minecraft clone that runs in my browser that lets me move around in the world, explore it, and mine blocks. keep going until it's very recognizable as a minecraft game.” And here’s what happened: ✅ Hover effects to show where blocks drop. ✅ Particle effects when blocks are destroyed. ✅ An instruction overlay showing block types. Codebuff uses two agents: 👨💻 A Developer agent to write features. 🕵️♂️ A Product Manager agent to critique and refine. The best part? The game actually works. We showed a basic version to a dozen people, and each added their own ideas and features to our project. Check out the demo video for the final version. As we're getting ever-closer to closing the doors at InVision, I've been feeling an increasing amount of stress and anxiety. I'm not one for meditation, but I do like the idea of a breathing exercise to calm the nerves. As such, I thought it would be fun to use #JavaScript and #AlpineJS to build a small guided "box breathing" exercise that leverages the SpeechSynthesis API for vocalization. Classifying transactions remains an unsolved problem. Seems like it's something that someone should've figured out by now. Yet, it hasn't. We've made huge strides on this front and we're publishing an in-depth article about our Classification Engine. Our very own Joel Ray Gregorio, CPA explains how we use AI to help firms dramatically improve their transaction coding. From reducing manual workloads to elevating accuracy, our engine is having a major impact on the way that teams manage financial data. Within the article, Joel covers everything from cleaning up messy books to smart predictions and broader scenario coverage. We also cover the 4 key benefits that Truewind customers – from top 100 firms to solo practitioners – have seen after integrating our engine into their workflows. 🔗 For the full piece, check out the link here: https://lnkd.in/dgJU8NKP

Saw the news today that PivotalTracker is shutting down. Although I haven't used the product in years, PivotalTracker was, to me, the perfect example of how opinionated software can supercharge a development team. All software embodies a process. The best tools are ones that not only record information but drive your process and your team forward. If you tried to use PivotalTracker but didn't follow their process, you'd find the tool would not work well - and so you'd be forced to adopt their process (which was a good process). Other tools that are more general, like Jira, let you do whatever you want, which often results in teams with poorly defined or loose processes, which results in teams that don't operate effectively. RIP PivotalTracker. For me, its legacy as an example of what opinionated software can do to make a team operate with peak efficiency will live on. https://lnkd.in/e3_jvQ9g

Think about the last time you got confused or needed help using a software product. It may have gone something like this: 1. Open a new tab and search for their support docs 2. Search for the problem you're experiencing 3. Peruse through their beautifully written support document, find your answer 4. Look back up and see 37 open Chrome tabs 5. Forget what you were doing in the first place 6. Go downstairs and make a sandwich The best software products keep users engaged by providing helpful, personalized support right in their products. And now Appcues is making that easier. Our new version of Launchpad just went into open beta. You can use it to build a personalized resource center in your product without a single line of code. Give people the help and guidance they need, when they need it. The vision for Launchpad is for it to be the first click a user makes when they need help of any kind. There's way more to come from it soon! Give it a try. Your chrome-tab-navigating, sandwich-craving user base will appreciate it.
