I am currently the team leader of UNECE’s initiative to draft standards for sustainable off-grid power #PPPs. The World Bank’s Off-Grid Policy Toolkit has provided interesting insights into drafting relevant policy. “The Off-Grid Solar (OGS) policy toolkit is designed to assist governments in creating an enabling environment for OGS and pay-as-you-go (PAYG) sector growth. It identifies 12 key policy issues and considers the advantages and disadvantages of different policy approaches to each issue. Importantly, the toolkit outlines a step-by-step process that governments can use to facilitate policy dialogue, providing guidance and tools at each step. This process envisions a scenario where government ministries and agencies work together to advance policy reforms that accelerate progress in energy access, digital inclusion, and financial inclusion.” Please share any examples that you are aware of of off-grid power PPP projects that can be referenced in the UNECE study. The Energy for Peace Global Development Alliance, a collaboration between ISA, Ecopetrol, SUNCOLOMBIA, and USAID/Colombia, demonstrates the vital role blended finance can play in catalyzing private sector investment to deliver clean energy to hard-to-reach communities that are critical for peace and development. Over the next five years, the alliance is expected to provide sustainable electricity for nearly 8,000 people and six producer clusters in conflict-affected communities in Colombia, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating an estimated $6 million from increased sales of goods and services. Tuesday’s Community Energy Innovation Summit (https://lnkd.in/e8kwUWzW), hosted by the Clean Energy Business Network (CEBN), amplified the important role of collaboration and partnership in the work to support an equitable clean energy transition. The showcase of the US Department of Energy Community Energy Innovation Prize’s Collegiate Track winners - Georgia Tech Zero Energy Collaborations (Atlanta, GA), Greener CASA (Tyler, TX), GreenSynergy (Houston, TX) - offered creative ways to amplify community energy transition opportunities with community participation and equity at the center of program design and implementation. The federal agency panel moderated by Sandoli Robert of the US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Integrated Strategies Office, and featuring the DOE’s Office of Policy, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office, Office of Energy Justice and Equity, and State and Community Energy Programs, and the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund programs offered perspectives and opportunities reflecting the massive federal investment in community and economy-wide climate action and equitable energy transition through the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. While a wide-ranging discussion, of particular importance to note for our local community climate action and sustainability work: ⚡ Not only are federal investments an investment in climate action and energy transition, but more importantly, they are foundational to producing equitable outcomes in our communities.  ⚡ Opportunities enabled through changes to US tax credit policy, including enabling direct pay opportunities for non-profit organizations (including local governments) historically excluded from tax-based clean energy investment incentives is a tremendous opportunity, especially when combined (or stacked) for many clean energy technologies. ⚡ The DOE’s Office of Community Engagement - powered by the State and Community Energy Program - is an amazing “Navigator” resource to take advantage of the breadth of offices and programs the DOE offers. ⚡ The value of forming community and public-private partnerships early, before funding opportunities become available, is critical to effectively pursuing funding opportunities. The value of such partnership and collaboration extends to support small, clean energy technology and service businesses for expanding their ability to leverage their experience, innovation, and drive to amplify the climate action and energy transition work in our communities. #energytransition #communityenergy #climateaction #innovation #cleanenergy #communityengagement
