Some valuable insights shared from two of the best minds in ed-tech Lyman Missimer and Jomayra Herrera at Owl Ventures and at Reach Capital 1. Finding product market fit that results in at least $5M of ARR and profitability is an important factor in making an acquisition attractive enough for a buyer 2. Transactions rarely happen overnight. Intentionally networking with potential strategic partners and finding ways to collaborate can greatly enhance trust between management teams and increase the likelihood that a partnership could materialize into an acquisition that benefits both parties 3. AI is not a product category. It is a technology that can be leveraged to solve a problem or set of problems. Companies that are most likely to succeed will understand how to leverage this technology to solve a problem at scale. It's still early days in terms of what those business models will be and how open districts are to utilize the tech. But perhaps the greatest unknown is what will their capacity be to enact policies and guardrails to protect students and teachers from the unintended consequences of AI #edtech #AI

It was great chatting with Mark Leuba of 1EdTech Consortium and Frank Cicio of iQ4 at #ATD2024. Interesting conversations about #SkillsBased digital credentials are happening here. Frank and Mark are part of a growing community exploring opportunities to leverage technology standards for LERs that give clearer signals in the talent marketplace, to move beyond paper/pdf and proxies, to skills and predictably of performance. Many companies are moving beyond attendance and completion records to more meaningful #SkillsBased verifiable digital learning and employment records to support employee development, advancement, performance, and empowerment.
