Thesis work centered on asymptotic analysis of longest increasing subsequences for sequences generated by certain finite-state Markov machines. Limiting distribution results relied on characterizations featuring Brownian motion maximal functionals, distributions which are classically related to the spectrum of certain Gaussian random matrices.

Like most mathematics graduate students at Tech, as a TA I enjoyed the opportunity to teach quality undergraduate students the finer points of calculus and differential equations. I also had the opportunity of teaching an upper-level probability theory course, an experience that honed my understanding of what the salient points of the general theory should be for the non-practitioner. -

Initial graduate work focused on dynamical systems and chaos theory -- very hot topics at the time. Later switched to mathematical physics, with an emphasis on quantum mechanics vis-a-vis operator theory.
