When utilities can see what’s happening right at the edge, they can predict demand more accurately and better manage energy distribution. I recently spent time at #ClimateWeekNYC with leaders from across government and industry focused on the climate challenge, energy security and economic development. I was honored to participate in the Clean Energy Superpower Summit, featuring UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband. Secretary Miliband illustrated his vision to drive economic growth and make the UK a Clean Energy Superpower and we at National Grid are proud to help support that goal. This year, we announced a significant step up in energy infrastructure investment – investing around £60 billion in our energy networks over the next five years. This investment will help unlock economic growth, create thousands of new jobs, and enable the increasingly digital, electrified, and decarbonized economies of the future. We invest heavily in both the UK and the US, and we bring expertise and learnings from each country to the other, for example in offshore transmission and HVDC. #CleanEnergy #Energy

Nearly 5 million people are still without power in the aftermath of #Helene, according to PowerOutage.us. While many news reports focus on the number of electric customers impacted, it’s important to note that the number of people in a service territory is about 𝟯 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 the number of utility accounts. To the millions affected in these states, your perserverance during this difficult time is truly commendable. As we face more severe weather events, #GridResilience planning becomes even more critical to protect our communities. Florida was one of the first states to establish resilience plan requirements in early 2020, leading to billions invested thus far in grid hardening, enhanced inspections, self-healing grid technology, and other measures throughout the state. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆, major storms impact each area differently due to many factors outside the control of utilities and state government. Therefore, comparing the states based on the numbers below is NOT an apples-to-apples comparison. However, pre/post analyses have shown major grid resilience benefits for Florida utilities, so I expect similar results as utilities in the Sunshine State have continued to invest under the resilience plans each year. #EnergyPolicy #PowerReliability #UtilityPlanning #Infrastructure

National Fuel works hard to be a responsible and engaged corporate partner within the communities that we serve. In addition to safely and reliably distributing natural gas to more than 2.1 million people throughout Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania, National Fuel is also committed to being a cost-effective energy source for consumers. Within the Utility’s New York and Pennsylvania service territories, the Company provides natural gas service to approximately 93% and 84% of households, respectively. In New York and Pennsylvania, 83% and 73% of our Utility customers, in turn, use natural gas for heating. With the poverty rates in our areas being above the national average, it is important to remember that natural gas has consistently ranked as our service territories’ most affordable energy source. A cost-effective energy solution, natural gas is 3-4.5 times less expensive than electricity, and has a delivery reliability rate of more than 99.99%, helping families and businesses keep the natural gas and heat flowing, even during cold winter temperatures and severe weather events. The Company strives to maintain affordable delivery rates while limiting the frequency of requested delivery rate increases. Through effective management of our utility systems, National Fuel has been able to limit the occurrence of delivery rate increases. A study published by the Energy Information Administration demonstrated that in 2022, the Utility had the lowest residential delivery rate in New York and Pennsylvania and the second and third most affordable total bills, respectively, in the entire northeastern United States. Through various payment assistance programs, the Company has additional ways to help customers who may be struggling to pay their natural gas bills. In addition to state and federally funded programs and initiatives, National Fuel offers budget and deferred payment plans to stabilize customer bills, encourage timely payments and assist with maintaining uninterrupted service. Our Customer Service Team is able to connect eligible customers to programs and resources that may ultimately make their natural gas bills affordable, despite their financial circumstances. Customers are always encouraged to contact National Fuel if they struggle with their bill to see for which programs they may qualify. National Fuel has a strong history of delivering safe, reliable and affordable natural gas to customers, and that mission will remain at the forefront of all that we do. The continued rapid expansion of data centers has significantly increased the demand for electricity, putting increased pressure on the energy industry, requiring innovative and uniquely tailored solutions to address these needs. It was great talking to Darren Sweeney for S&P Global about this, and how the ComEd service territory continues to be among the top five regions in terms of data center growth in the United States. At Exelon we expect 11 GW of data center load growth in our service territories, up from the 6 GW we were projecting at the beginning of the year. This has been an exciting challenge to approach the large inflows of energy demand, but we’re confident that we can do it affordably and sustainably.
