Want to tease something my team has been working on over at Buffer! The attached image isn't a mockup, but a screenshot of a live prototype of RSS feeds directly in Buffer! It's only available internally and still pretty rough at this point, but we'll have it available for user testing soon. 🎯 AI and Your 2025 Product Strategy Another great session with The Prodify Guild (TPG), Prodify's monthly cross-client meetings to dive deep into topics shaping the product management world. We explored how product teams can approach AI —not as a feature, but as a way to solve customer problems. Here’s the 3-step process we discussed for assessing where AI fits into your 2025 strategy: 1️⃣ Revisit Your Vision AI should align with your product vision and enhance your customers’ experience. To do this, consider your customer journey and ask where AI can be game-changing: - Trigger: What frustrations drive your customers to seek a solution, and can AI remove friction in that moment? - Discovery: How can AI help customers find your product more effectively? For example, personalized recommendations based on behavior or search intent. - Evaluation: Can AI simplify how customers assess your product? Automated demos or personalized trial experiences are powerful tools. - Onboarding: Is your onboarding experience tailored? AI can use customer-provided data to deliver personalized, intuitive setups. - Engagement: AI can optimize engagement by identifying which features drive the most value for users. - Retention: Use AI to analyze churn signals and proactively address customer needs to boost loyalty. 2️⃣ Identify Revenue Focus Areas We focused this session specifically on the use case of AI's potential across retention and growth. A few examples: - Personalization at Scale: Deliver unique experiences dynamically, such as Stitch Fix using AI to generate tailored clothing recommendations. - Save Customers Time: Automate repetitive tasks to make your product more efficient, as Superhuman does by drafting emails for users overnight. - Drive Innovation and Expand Markets: Use AI to develop entirely new product offerings, like GoDaddy’s Airo that streamline small business branding and marketing. 3️⃣ The 3 Levels of AI Feature Maturity Understanding your company's readiness for AI can guide where you begin. These three levels represent increasing complexity (image attached): - Basic Integration: A great starting point for companies new to AI. This might involve embedding tools like ChatGPT to add immediate value with minimal setup. - Customized Application Layer: AI is integrated with your organization’s data to deliver more tailored solutions. e.g., Prodify helped a client use AI to combine internal data and existing workflows for smarter decision-making. - Advanced Model Augmentation: Companies at this level build proprietary AI models or layer custom capabilities on top of existing models, using AI insights across their product ecosystem.  It was a timely discussion, as many product teams are considering where AI fits in with 2025 strategic planning. We ended the session with an interactive exercise where attendees could brainstorm how AI could align with their product vision and strategy.

A decade ago this week, I read Nir Eyal’s book “Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products” for the first time. I dogeared pages. I took notes. I made plans. So did a lot of people just like me. As builders, we couldn’t code fast enough. We kept iterating. Designing sexier triggers; urging you to take action; feeding you rewards (sometimes); and getting you to invest more and more time and effort. Why? So we could build sharper and pointier hooks. After suffering together through the acceleratingly negative impact that social media and meticulously crafted content veiled as 24 hour news has had on our society, I wish I never read that book. I wish no one ever read that book. Especially not builders like me who codified such a harmlessly simple process into most everything our minds consume hundreds of times a day. As users, we weren’t given a choice. Companies built these features. We used their products. We became addicted. Unfortunately there is no undo. We can’t mash [CTRL]+[z] enough times. We can’t shake our iPhones enough—even like a Polaroid picture. As a society we unknowingly walked through a one-way door. Nir realized that Pandora’s box was opened so he later gave us “Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life” which is helpful but operates at the scale of 1–an individual. Firms could follow a recipe they found in a cookbook and make an app that addicts a generation; but, to kick the habit every user has to go it alone—like Caine from Kung Fu. I would like to think that if us builders had complete foresight into what has happened over the last 10 years that we would have made different choices. I wish we had a choice as users—not that we would have believed or even read the terms of use before we clicked to accept them. Since I don’t have a Time Machine (yet), I can offer you a blunt force hack to prevent you from succumbing to these apps we all hate to love. It is (mostly) an unreversable process to undo Hooked’s 4-step process with a 3-step one, a 25% reduction in steps, to stop yourself from doom scrolling your (least) favorite social media apps: 1) Add Two Factor Authentication (#2FA) to you social media account you want to stop using using Duo Security or a similar app. 2) Despite instructions that implore you to do otherwise, do not save the backup codes they give you. DO NOT! 3) Log in one last time to say your goodbyes and then delete that account from your 2FA app. You won’t be able to (easily) get back in. All you could do is start over, and that takes too much effort! I am sorry. You are welcome. Use at your own discression. Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear. -Streeter P.s. This is not a jab at Nir nor his work. “Hooked” should be required reading so builders understand they must start with the first principles of why (psychology, sociology) in order to know the how of whatever problem they are trying to solve. Hopefully building something they won’t regret!

It was great chatting with the Identity Jedi David Lee, about my journey and experiences in the world of Identity. Thanks for having me on the Podcast! Here are some key takeaways I shared in the podcast based on my personal experience: Identity is a business enabler: Identity is no longer just a cost center. It is a linchpin of security and a core part of every organization's business strategy. This transformation is driven by the need to offer tailored experiences, satisfy privacy and compliance requirements, and protect your IT systems from bad actors. Championing customer best practices: As cybersecurity builders and practitioners, we are responsible for educating customers and end users about the right security configurations, as misconfigurations can serve as another entry point for threat actors. Future Trends in Identity Management: Zero trust remains a significant theme in Identity. It's like the old mantra with a new meaning. With Passwordless adoption continuing to grow after native support from the major platforms (Apple, Google, etc.), we are seeing more innovations in the pre and post-authentication part of the identity journey.
