Did GML24 raise more PPC questions raised than it answered? Here are 5 that every search marketer should ask themselves. 1. How confident are you, really, that you'll get the "old Google" back?   This is bigger than manual CPC vs. target ROAS. The spectrum of technology known as "AI" e.g. LLMs and AI overviews have already embedded themselves in Google Search so deeply. It's almost inconceivable that they can ever be separated. Before you can pivot or adapt to what's coming, you have to make peace with this Q2. How will you capitalize on the advertising opportunities that AI creates?   One of the live demos at GML involved Google exceutive Philipp Schindler showing what search could look like on wearables, specifically glasses equipped with generative AI. If you're worried about mobile and desktop search and the volatility of SERPs, you're not wrong to do so. But if you aren't also thinking about these new experiences, you might miss out on exciting ways to promote your brands and clients. Q3. What post-click experiences can you create to remove friction?   How many times have you clicked on an ad and noped out of a landing page because it was too much work? You spot a cool new piece of furniture, but now you've got to get the measuring tape and see if it will fit where you want. It's too much work to not cause friction, but with augmented reality and AI you can remove that friction. Imagine letting someone use their always-on-them smartphone to quickly figure out what size they need using a photo of the space they have. How many move conversions could you get by making it that much easier? Q4. How will you balance Performance Max with Search, Smart Bidding and Broad Match?   The very fabric of search is evolving. Used to be you could only target people based on what they were searching for in the moment. Google now has sufficient user data that it can determine, often and with typically high accuracy, what else someone might be interested in. And these are based on hundreds of thousands of data points that we will never be able to see, much less comprehend. The only way to buy in to that table is with machine learning tech i.e. Performance Max, Smart Bidding and Broad Match. At the same time, you'll still want to exercise some control with Search. How will you divide and conquer your campaigns and objectives using all of these tools? Q5. What are you doing beyond search? Beyond Google? Beyond any one platform?   Brands are competing for attention like never before, but few offer or do anything truly novel to distinguish themselves from competitors i.e. to "unlevel the playing field". But the people looking for products and services certainly will want to use new AI-based technologies to search for information and solutions in newer, faster ways. That includes by diversifying from just search engines to social media, forums, and niche sites like Pinterest - basically wherever your audiences spend their time looking for stuff.

Higher CPMs = Higher ROAS? Why a high CPM is actually good for your business ↓ Most people think that high CPMs are affecting their business. Guess what? This is completely false. High CPMs may actually be a good sign. Why? Let’s talk CPMs: 1. How are CPMs calculated? CPMs derive from 4 main sources: 1. Audience 2. Placement 3. Creative  4. Page Score Audience Think of your audience in terms of supply and demand. If you for example advertise in the skin care niche, there’s a lot of similar brands that compete for the same audience. Therefore the “Base” CPM is higher from the get go. But this isn’t bad. The audience is actually more valuable. Placement The placement also impacts your CPMs. Typically a Facebook newsfeed impression has the highest CPM, and a FB Desktop Right Column a lower CPM. But the Facebook Newsfeed Impression has people who convert better. Creative Yes, your creative also has an impact on your CPM. Your creative should be entertaining and be fun for people to have on your newsfeed. The less entertaining your ad is, the less people want to see it. Facebook notices that and “punishes” you with higher CPMs to basically tell you to make ads that people want to see. Page Score If it drops to an orange or red level this is also a sign to Facebook that you’re a bad business partner to them. 2. Why CPMs don't matter First of all, there’s nothing (except one thing, more on that later) that you can do about your CPMs. There is not a specific action you can take to lower them. On top of that, you simply can’t say that lower CPMs are better. Some ads have lower CPMs because they reach a broader audience but don’t convert as well in the backend. Some ads have higher CPMs because they reacher a smaller audience but they convert super well. 3. When are your CPMs too high and what can you do about it? If your CPMs rise above $60ish on broad in the US, it may be a sign that one of two things is off Your Creative  Your Page Score Creative: Your creative shouldn’t be boring. Every ad should entertain. High CPMs can be a hint for you to create ads that are entertaining. Page Score: Your page score also has a large impact on your CPMs. If it drops to an orange or red level this is also a sign to Facebook that you’re a bad business partner to them. Could be due to various different factors e.g. Shipping Times, Product Quality etc. So, if your CPMs have risen recently check your page score. BUT with all that, keep your CPA in mind. If your CPA is profitable, then forget about your CPMs. To sum this up: 1. A high CPM often is an indicator for you reaching a valuable audience 2. Not every impression on Facebook is the same, some are worth more, some are worth less 3. The only actions you can do to improve your CPM is to: Improve your Page Score Make better creatives How does your page score look like?

This makes it easier for the reader to skim & browse. 2.) Use Hub & Spoke method Don’t just create blog content for the sake of it. Build Hub & Spoke for internal linking. Educate as much as you possibly can. 3.) Optimize for keyword clusters Don’t stop at 1 target keyword. Research a keyword cluster & build 8-10 subtopics. Optimize your blog content to hit on all of them. 4.) Make a killer hook You only have 1-3 secs to capture attention. Custom create with each first line to make it POP. Your 1st line is your hook... make it matter. 5.) 3+ external links Link out to tools you mention. Include research studies to back up your claims. Link to terms that your reader may want to learn more about. 6.) 5+ internal links Internal link like you mean it. Refer readers to useful content on your website. This adds value & builds authority for your site. 7.) 4+ Images with alt tags Use images to break up the blog. Add an image alt tag. This allows search engines to understand what images mean when crawling. 8.) 1 captivating featured image Don’t forget a featured image. Something that represents the blog. Use custom featured images on the blog. 9.) Add an infographic At the top, include an infographic. People love visual aids. Helps readers digest content in a fun way. 10.)
