Does being compliant with CMMC really matter right now? A small fraction of defense contractors have already done the hard work to prepare for these critical requirements to protect our national defense infrastructure. For the remaining ~200,000 contractors, it is a risk management decision. Can you afford to lose contracts with those clauses? Would your business stay afloat without that government customer? Could waiting hurt your business and bottom line? We have seen companies lose HUGE contracts that resulted in having to layoff people who have been there for 20 years. This stuff has a huge impact. Scammers believe they have more money: Scammers may believe that older adults have more money to steal. They are more trusting: Older adults may be more trusting and may have memory issues. They may have difficulty with technology: Older adults may have difficulty navigating technology. They may be more available: Older adults may be more available to answer phone calls, read emails, and respond to texts from strangers. They may be more isolated: Older adults who live alone may be especially vulnerable to scammers. This week's podcast, CIRCIA Rulemaking: Double Incident Reporting for the DIB. Defense contractors have had cyber incident reporting obligations under DFARS clause 252.204-7012 for many years. Recently, however, CISA issued a 457-page proposed rule implementing the 2022 Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act. Unless CISA and DoD can reach an agreement, DIB contractors will have duplicative incident reporting obligations for two different agencies.
