How do you collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders in developing technical training content?
I use a blended approach to identify SMEs: 1. Internal: I share content plans in company meetings, newsletters, and events. This usually leads to volunteers offering help. 2. Customers: We recently surveyed customers about video security. They provided many responses, followed by interviews that uncovered a wealth of industry knowledge. 3. Featured.com: We recently gathered insights from L&D experts on employee video training for a blog post. With Featured, I can gain amazing ideas from industry experts without the back-and-forth of introductions, requests, and follow-ups. How can you transition from a sales career to marketing without starting over?
You have a leg up over marketers given your intimate knowledge of customers. Apply that knowledge of buyer personas, challenges, needs, objections, and uses cases to build fresh content. Start with your take on buyer personas and document how your product makes them heroes. Answer how to address top buyer questions. These answers can become an FAQ page, blog post, slide in a deck, webinar, or one-pager. Map out 5-10 most common buyer use cases, associated challenges, and examples of ways buyers overcome the challenges (with or without your product). Each use case becomes helpful sales enablement content to include in decks. This type of content is also digital gold for web pages, guides, and blog posts. This is just to start!

How do you segment your target market?
Quick Segmentation tip from Tim Ryan Marketing: I like to look at multiple data sources to build segmentation categories based on buyer needs and desires. Here are a few examples: -Google Search Console for intent-based keywords -G2 reviews for what buyers love about a product/service. And, where their needs are not met. -Qualitative data from lead capture form fields (e.g., How can we help; what brought you to us?). -Google Analytics for 1)Most visited pages, 2) Highest converting pages -Google Ads for highest converting keywords Go get ‘em!
