This is the progression from average to elite when it comes to resumes and interviewing 👇 Average Sales Reps: No numbers or awards on their resume. They just explain their responsibilities Good Sales Reps: Numbers and awards on their resume. They are clearly successful, but when it comes to interview time that can't explain why. Great Sales Reps: Numbers and awards on their resume, and can clearly articulate why they have been successful. ELITE Sales Reps: Numbers, awards, can articulate why they are successful and can teach other people how to also be successful in their job. There are some other factors of course, but at the end of the day this is the real stuff. Can you explain why you are good? A great rep can transform a territory. A great rep who can teach can transform a region and sometimes an entire company. So while you're out there dominating - pay attention and take note of why and how things went well. If you want to get promoted to AE, You need to have AE skills. And, unfortunately, most SDRs don't have them. Why? Because the SDR role and the AE role are very very different. If you just focus on developing your skills as an SDR and expect to get promoted to AE, You're kidding yourself. You'll get better as an SDR (which is table stakes for promotion), But you won't show you're ready for the next step. So how do you develop AE skills? By doing AE work. This means running calls. And it doesn't have to be customer calls right off the bat. Here's a strategy that worked for me: Schedule a mock call with a different person internally every week. There are 3 big advantages of this: 1️⃣ You get experience running calls and then get quick feedback on where you can improve 2️⃣ You get to work with different personalities and get different perspectives on how to best run a call 3️⃣ Word will get around internally that you're working on your AE skills, which will improve your internal personal brand This is how you take control of your own development. There are a lot of competition for these spots, So you need to make your promotion a no-brainer. I closed a $10k deal this week, and it all started with a referral. Asking for referrals can feel awkward at first. But here's what I've learned: - Build Trust First: Prove yourself by delivering value and staying true to your word. When you consistently show up with honesty and a commitment to results, people naturally see you as someone worth recommending. - Just Ask: If you've built a positive relationship, ask if they know anyone who could benefit from your service. Many times, they'll appreciate the opportunity to help you because they see your work's impact. Remember, people want to help those they trust. Sometimes, it's as simple as asking and letting them share your story. Don't underestimate the power of referrals in growing your business!

Sales Interview Pro Tip: It's the little things that matter. Those little things add up over time. Good and bad (ask me how I know)... Little things you should do if you want an interview/job: - Reach out before interviews with a quick message to say you're excited to learn more about the role - Connect on LinkedIn (if you haven't already) - Send thank you and follow up notes within 24 hours And here's a new one... - Accept the calendar invite if you're sent one What % of candidates do you think I talk to that don't do any of the above? The number would astonish you. And that's not to say that every candidate who doesn't follow up is bad. But it's not a great look. Treat interviewing like a sales cycle. It’s about resilience, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate complex situations. Behavioral questions help me uncover how a candidate operates when the pressure is on, when deals fall apart, or when they need to pivot strategies to close new business. For example, I might ask: “Tell me about a time you landed a major deal with a tough client. How did you approach it?” “Describe a time when you faced rejection repeatedly. So companies are making sales reps go through 3 or more 60-90 minute interviews that include: - mock discovery - mock demos - mock objection handling - additional roleplaying - and for the AE to provide 60-90 plan And when they decide they’re not a fit They send an email saying thanks for your time but we went in another direction. I'm on board with going through a thorough interview process. But if you've invested this much time into evaluating someone and having them spend so much time prepping, at least tell them why you went in another direction. #hiring #interview
