Texas manufacturing activity grows in December Texas factory activity increased in December, according to business executives responding to the Texas Manufacturing Outlook Survey. The production index, a key measure of state manufacturing conditions, rose to 3.9 from a near-zero reading last month. Other measures of manufacturing activity were mixed. The new orders index shot up 11 points to -0.9, suggesting demand was unchanged from November. The capacity utilization and shipments indexes both edged up but remained in negative territory, coming in at -2.5 and -2.0, respectively
