**An Israeli Startup Entrepreneur’s Response to Darkness, Part II** Imagine someone asked you to go into a room and turn off the dark. ?!?! What would you do? Of course, you would turn on a light. And if they asked you to turn the dark back on, well, you would turn off the light. Because darkness does not have a switch – it has no ‘שימוש’. It is the absence of light, or the presence of light. You want less darkness? Well there is only one question to ask – one thing to do: Turn on a light. Most of the corporate business world deals with trying to turn off the dark. That is, they sit with the status quo, and move around existing technologies and resources in order to create different results. Not us entrepreneurs. No sir. No Ma’am. We light new lights. ‘ויהי אור’ – Let there be light.  We have these highly unusual spirits. Where others see painful gaps that must be managed, we imagine new solutions. Where others struggle with existing darkness, we find new ways to create light. The cool thing about light is, that unlike any other element, it multiplies without diminishing when you share it. It’s like my teacher, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach once said: “If I pour you some water from my cup, now we both have half a cup (before, I had a full cup). But when I light your unlit candle with my flame, now we have two flames. And when we join them together, the sum is greater than either part. That’s us Israeli entrepreneurs. And the thing is, we have another crazy power.  I think it comes from us Jews waiting 2,000 years to return to our homeland, always believing it was going to happen “any day now!”  Yeah, doesn’t that sound like most startup founders that you know?? You see, it is in our DNA. We don’t do ‘hopelessness’. We are more tenacious than even Jack Black. ‘חוסן’ - 'Resilient' - is our middle name. So let’s remember who we are, my dear fellow members of the Israeli Startup Community. Our Nation needs our Superpower.  Let’s turn on those lights like never before. עם ישראל חי

Amazing news for Israel, but maybe not so great news for the Israeli tech scene? Ilya Sutskever Raises $1 Billion for his New AI Venture! Bottom Line: Ilia Sutskever, one of OpenAI’s co-founders, has raised $1 billion for his new company, which aims to develop Super-Intelligence—an AI that can outperform human cognitive tasks with much (much) greater intelligence and efficiency. Just three months after announcing his new venture—Safe SuperIntelligence (which I wrote about previously) — it was revealed just a few days ago that Sutskever, a former Israeli and one of the brightest minds in the industry, has secured $1 billion at a $5 billion valuation. The funding round, of course, includes some of the most renowned investors in the world (Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and others). Sutskever founded the venture alongside @Daniel Levy, who worked with him at OpenAI, and investor @Daniel Gross. Pay attention to the word *Safe* in the company's name—it’s a core part of the mission these entrepreneurs have set for themselves. Sutskever says the company is laser-focused on one goal: creating the "holy grail" of AI research—Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)—which would be capable of performing any cognitive process humans can, including language processing, voice recognition, vision, understanding context, decision-making, and more. You can check out their minimalist website for more about their mission. Great news for Israel: The development center will be based both in Israel and Palo Alto. Slightly less great news for the local tech scene: A well-funded company is about to recruit top researchers, scientists, and developers locally.  Bigger picture — this is a big wow for all of us here in Israel. A week ago today I took the stage at Content Israel as a key speaker. I transparently shared in a room with over 300 fellow marketers that the first thing my CEO always asks me when we brainstorm a new campaign or program is, “Jen, what’s your content distribution plan?” 7 days and 3 hours to the dot, Daniel Kushner 🐙 asked me to provide my content distribution plan for one of our latest customer programs ( side note: super excited to launch, it's still top secret, so do stay tuned) And you know what was front and center as part of that distribution plan? #EmployeeAdvocacy. Why? Because when you understand how to use employee networks to distribute your content you crack the code in making sure your content is seen by the right people, from the right people in your organization. You create meaningful and personalized customer journeys. You stay true to what social media was intended for-- being social, and build a people-to-people connection. You use the authentic voices of your employees to share the content you’ve worked so hard to create ensuring that your content sees the light of day, you get the credit you deserve, and you can measure the actual engagement and reach of that content far beyond your corporate profile. And most importantly, you build meaningful relationships and can understand what content was used to help build them... So my question to you is, do you include #EmployeeAdvocacy as part of your distribution plan? Sharing my slide on my thought process on how to use advocacy to build meaningful customer journeys if some may find it helpful.

A big thank you to Kerry Leigh Miller and IDA Ventures for inviting me to participate in a panel discussion on Israeli tech during SF TECH WEEK by a16z We discussed the venture landscape in Israel, and covered a lot, so I wanted to share some key takeaways… One of the main topics we discussed was the unique attributes of Israeli founders. Their resilience, coupled with world-class technical expertise and a commercially-minded approach, makes investing in Israeli #entrepreneurs compelling for many #investors We also discussed the importance of team-building during the startup journey. Israeli founders, with their often strong and charismatic personalities and deep understanding of their markets, excel at this. They can translate complex technical innovations into practical, market-ready solutions Our conversation also highlighted the impact of Israeli universities on tech, as a recent study showed that Tel Aviv University ranks second on the universities’ unicorn founder list… so lots of incredible potential from this region During times of conflict, the resilience of Israeli entrepreneurs has become even more pronounced, but we also have to acknowledge the country’s current challenges Overall, the panel was a reminder of the strength and potential of the Israeli startup scene, so I'm excited to see what the future holds, even during this challenging time for the country Thank you to my fellow panelists and participants, and all those who attended… looking forward to participating in future panels on the topic of Israeli tech! So... the Israeli tech machine is finally moving towards focusing on the early-stage: The Startups Forum (part of the Israeli Hi-Tech Association איגוד ההיי-טק הישראלי) was launched and that's great news for us all. It is meant to serve a few important goals, including state grade support and the education of first time pre-seed founders. Over this past year, we’ve learned anew the strength that we have as a nation. And if you’ve read recent headlines regarding funding rounds and exits of Israeli startups, you will see a clear demonstration of resilience in action. According to a recent report by Startup Nation Central, the Israel tech ecosystem has recently completed: - 220 private investment rounds - An estimated $3.1 billion raised - $3.7 billion in M&A transactions - 20 new venture capital funds were established, raising $1.7 billion And it’s not just internal optimism. A recent poll conducted by the global accounting company Ernst & Young showed that about 60% of multinational companies expressed confidence in the Israeli tech industry. Some might say that what happens in Israel is simply miraculous. I say that it’s because of the resilience, grit, determination, creativity, innovation and perseverance of our people. I had the pleasure of attending the Apex Group Ltd Israel Summit, Co-hosted with Brooks-Keret Financial Management, which focused on Israel's Diverse Capital Raising & Private Equity Landscape. The event provided valuable insights into the latest trends and developments in fundraising, including alternative financing methods. This bold decision highlights a growing trend: Israeli high-tech companies prioritize long-term ambition over a quick payday. Is it Feature to Fortune? Sure, $23 billion is a number that would make any founder sweat. But ! here's the thing: getting gobbled up by Google often means becoming just another "security feature" in their vast ecosystem. It also means that as a founder, you might like to keep being there working under Google's strategy, but in most cases, you will just leave after your vesting period.💡 IPO: Building an Empire, Not Getting Sold Instead of the acquisition route, Wiz is setting its sights on an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Definitely one of the best teams I’ve met and worked with in the local tech scene. Run:ai ✨ But a few more reasons why this acquisition is awesome. 1. Nvidia appreciates us & keeps on doubling-down on the Israeli startup ecosystem. After the huge success with Mellanox the Giant is here to stay. That’s great. Again - I’d say that a big part of it belongs to Eyal Waldman. 2. Israel will get stronger, or at least keep on track within the race to AI. 3. Timing: especially now. When Israel is threatened and facing different attacks, and some big challenges. While many of us are not at our best (to say the least) and fight for our future - Nvidia knows what great innovation we have here, how great the teams are - and closing such a deal. 4. Just like many other great things we’ve seen recently, also this innovation starts with science. Education is important! 5. A small reason to smile and feel proud of our tech industry. Happy news.
