A compelling argument for the importance of experiments and the use of Bayesian modeling. The objection/notion of isolated, walled garden experiments is slowly becoming obsolete. As advertisers increasingly leverage open-source or proprietary geo/user-based experimentation on their own internal metrics, the need for incrementality testing as the gold standard for establishing media causality becomes undeniable. Incorporating experimental data into a Bayesian framework should enable more accurate and actionable insights in this regard.

MYTH BUSTING ALERT 🤯 I see posts and articles everyday about the how the "loss of signal" means digital measurement is going away. I'm sharing this article to tell you that is NOT true and in fact it will be better than ever. Most of the data signals we have used for digital advertising measurement for the last 20 years relied on "exhaust" that were never great quality. They were the best we had and we learned from them. IP, Cookie and device based attribution was never great measurement. AND these "signals" often created a lot of copies of personal data making it almost impossible to comply with increasing regulation and consumer consent. To say it simply - get over it and get on with it. The future of privacy first measurement is here now in clean rooms. The use of 1P data from everyone involved will clean up measurement as we know it forever. Don't believe me??? Read on for details.

Inspired by Philipp Schneider’s recent post, I've been reminiscing about my years working with Google Analytics (GA). My adventure in web analytics began at Cossette, which led to the privilege of attending multiple GA summits in San Francisco. These experiences were instrumental in my understanding of GA’s evolution, and I was fortunate to witness the transition to Universal Analytics (UA). Throughout the years, I immersed myself in mastering GA, eventually leading to teaching opportunities at HEC Montréal and École des dirigeantes et dirigeants HEC Montréal. Sharing my knowledge and helping others navigate GA has been incredibly rewarding. Now, as we transition to GA4 at nesto (and across the world), it's been a challenging yet exciting (also frustrating) journey of relearning (as well as redesigning my courses). The integration with BigQuery has definitely opened new avenues for deep data analysis, since we were never 360 clients. With UA being retired in a few days, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and gratitude. UA has been a steadfast companion, enabling me to confidently address any analytics question thrown my way. Farewell, Universal Analytics. In our latest case study, we supported a Plant-Based Foods brand with valuable consumer insights. This brand was looking to tailor their messaging to appeal to the Publix shopper. Our research found striking differences between the Publix shopper and shoppers at other grocery stores in terms of their values & priorities. We recommended to the brand for the Publix shopper, they downplay taste, sustainability, and dairy-free in their messaging and instead emphasize their health benefits, quality ingredients, and finely crafted products. We additionally compared interest vs. purchase behavior for various plant-based food items and identified growth opportunities for the brand - categories where interest is currently outpacing purchase.
