Kyle consistently shares exceptional content around PLG, growth and pricing. It was a ton of fun collaborating and seeing his breakdown. The first point is an interactive demo on the website. The fourth point is to leverage product data to drive customer outcomes. This fourth point I found particularly interesting. The CRM is the "source of truth" for go-to-market teams, but often lacks product analytics to provide customer behavior understanding from in-product activities without human or sales rep involvement. Niche doesn't mean single-product. Data from TideMark's 2024 Vertical & SMB SaaS Benchmark Report backs this up. The sauce for Vertical SaaS is owning a niche and layering new products over time to grow 'share of wallet'... Here’s what I’ve learned from acquiring and operating Micro SaaS: // Product Expansion: - Start with your core offering, but always be mapping out adjacent pain points - Look for low-hanging fruit - features users are cobbling together with spreadsheets or third-party tools - Aim for products that increase switching costs and make your solution "stickier" // Acquisition vs. Development: - Sometimes it's faster to acquire a complementary product than build in-house - Look for small, bootstrapped tools in your vertical that solve adjacent problems - Assess potential acquisitions based on tech stack compatibility and integration ease // Pricing and Packaging: - Bundle strategically - not all products need to be sold separately - Use add-ons to increase ARPA without scaring off smaller customers - Consider usage-based pricing for auxiliary products to lower the barrier to adoption // Sales and Marketing: - Retrain your sales team on solution selling rather than product pitching - Develop clear ideal customer profiles for each product combination - Use your existing customer base as a testbed for new products // Technical Considerations: - Plan for integration from day one - whether building or buying - Prioritize a consistent user experience across products - Consider a modular architecture to facilitate future expansion // Metrics to Watch: - Track product adoption rates within your customer base - Monitor support ticket volume as you add products - Keep a close eye on churn rates for single-product vs. multi-product customers The multi-product approach isn't just about making more money. Picture this scenario: You're the CRO of a Series A startup. You hired and onboarded a team of BDR's and AE's. New logos are coming through the door often and your ARR is on the rise. Your BDR's are going above and beyond setting meetings, understanding the product as well as how to give an initial demo. Your AE's are discovering product market fit in new verticals and are bringing whales into their pipeline, which go on to closed-won. You now have successfully raised a Series B round. All of this growth and momentum is an exciting new challenge and you now need to invest most of your time and efforts in orchestrating the funnel of leads coming in from marketing, inbound, and outbound, the sales cycle, the offerings, and the post-sales process. You decide it's time to hire a VP of Sales. Do you let the VP of sales bring in their own AE's or do you push to promote your BDR's to the AE position and existing AE's to strategic or team lead while only bringing aboard a new BDR team? It is a matter of preference and experience. In my experience and the conversations I've had with sales professionals, the former happens more than the latter. Great read on the state of SaaS in 2024. Biggest take-aways (especially GTM): - 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: ARR growth is at its lowest in years, with companies relying more on expansion than new logos. - 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Sales efficiency has dropped, with the net magic number falling below 1.0x for the first time. - 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗜𝗣𝗢: More SaaS companies are achieving profitability before going public. - 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀: Free Cash Flow (FCF) margins are improving, but the "Rule of 40" remains stagnant. - 𝗔𝗜'𝘀 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: GenAI could shift the "Rule of 40" to the "Rule of 60," but this is expected in 12+ months. - 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: ARR per FTE is up, but operational costs per employee are rising due (inflation and AI investments). Comparing performance of handraiser and non-handraiser SDR cadences for "inbound" leads ⬇️ HANDRAISER • Open rate: > 50% • Meeting rate: 30-50% NON-HANDRAISER • Open rate: ~25% * Meeting rate: ~1% TAKE-AWAY ➡️ Non-handraiser performance is functionally indistinguishable from cold outreach, and in some cases worse. Another reason why the "inbound" vs. "outbound" distinction isn't particularly useful, at least not anymore Instead, we should think about the level of intent of the signal + relevancy of the message.

The AEs and SDRs from 5 years ago are the CROs and VPs today. This may sound somewhat self-serving, but here it goes. It’s been cool to see the goodwill I created with those AEs and SDRs over the years turn into meaningful opportunities, pipeline, and revenue for Copy.ai. This has never been the primary intent of my presence or content here. But I will say, it’s a nice benefit. Build trust, provide value, be kind, build your network. It’s worth it for many reasons. #sales #sdr #gtmai

I’ve seen 200 + SDR teams. One of the most common reasons why SDR teams fail? They’re spending time doing the wrong things.   1) Companies are hindering their team with non pipeline generating activities. 2) Complicated or lack of process... CRMs that are like a maze and have 15+ fields to fill in just to change a lead status. 3) Activities that aren’t linked to quota. What have I missed? 💡

Deep account research Deep contact research Unique + bespoke value props Building real relationships The fundamentals exist for a reason. Focus on those and you'll go very far. Most CRO agencies go straight to A/B testing. (We didn't - and it made an additional $800k MRR for our client) Here's exactly how we did it 👇 Dr. Squatch was already successful, but they wanted to scale from $5M to $100M+ in revenue in under 2 years. Most agencies would jump straight to A/B testing. We didn't. Instead, we started with deep customer research: - Implemented heatmaps - Monitored social feedback - Analyzed purchase patterns - Conducted customer surveys Customers were already buying multiple soap bars... but the product pages weren't optimized for this behavior. Here's what we did: 1. Added quantity selectors to product pages 2. Set default quantity to 2 bars 3. Redesigned the checkout flow 4. Enhanced product collections 5. Improved subscription offers The results? 📈 54% increase in revenue per soap purchaser 📈 $800k+ additional monthly revenue 📈 $9.6M+ annualized revenue impact But here's the real lesson: The biggest wins don't come from random A/B tests. Sequence is absolutely *crushing* its GTM content engine. Worth checking out their most recent report "Sequence Principles" detailing tactical revenue lessons from 100+ B2B companies. Some highlights: 1. Clear ICP messaging (B2B sales leadership) 2. Easy scrolling/skimming ability across sections 3. Real-time founder testimonials (like Sasha Orloff) 4. What are your thoughts on seeing their deals mapped out in a deal velocity scorecard? This is part of the performance dashboard we're building for MidFunnel. The idea is that sellers can see how their deals are faring. Managers can quickly get a pulse on deal progress. The velocity is calculated based on the responsiveness of communication.
