    Examination of the expression and function of MUC 1 in and its role in airway host defense. Techniques acquired: Establishment and propagation of human airway epithelial cells (airway dissection, protease digestion, cell isolation, and plating, trypsinization, and passage of primary cells), flow cytometry, single and double immunofluorescent staining, creation and maintenance of human airway xenografts using SCID mice, isolation of peripheral blood neutrophils, radioimmunoassay.

    The Will-Grundy Medical Clinic is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides free medical and dental care to adults who have no health insurance or medical care entitlements and meet prescribed income guidelines. Care is provided by physicians, dentists and other professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to the Clinic. Dr. Desai is a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the clinic.

    The Will-Grundy Medical Clinic is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides free medical and dental care to adults who have no health insurance or medical care entitlements and meet prescribed income guidelines. Care is provided by physicians, dentists and other professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to the Clinic. Dr. Desai is a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the clinic.
    The Clinic is funded by the United Ways of Will and Grundy counties, our four partner hospitals, local businesses and individuals. We hold three fundraising events and conduct two fund drives each year. Dental and medical personnel offer their services at no charge and the partner hospitals provide millions of dollars of contributed services in the form of surgical suites, diagnostic testing and lab work.
    Our Mission:
    To promote a healthy community by:
    *Providing free health-care services to people in Will and Grundy counties who are unable to receive care from other sources.
    *Providing these services through dedicated healthcare professional volunteers and other volunteers, together with a paid staff, in alliance with other community agencies and healthcare providers.

    With the Presence TeleHealth team (Kathy Johnson, Laura Messineo and Anna Hester), lead the implementation of the TeleStroke program development, technology assessment and roll-out across Presence Health. The Presence TeleHealth Center serves as the technology backbone; and PSJMC and PRMC as the primary TeleStoke hubs.     Built upon the foundational work of Dr. Jay Cowen and Dr. Ken Cruz, in utilizing the TeleICU to screen every ICU admission for severe sepsis and septic shock. Reduction of patient mortality from severe sepsis and septic shock, across the Legacy Provena organization to 23% from >40% (2009 to present).
