When you challenge yourself to explain the benefits of your GIS data and analytic capabilities, and you limit yourself to an interactive map visual and a few paragraphs to explain what’s important and current, you are on a good path.

Warning systems can mitigate the human impacts from flooding by reducing fatalities and economic damage. Populations in low- and middle-income countries remain the most vulnerable. Providing actionable flood warnings requires solving problems across an extended workflow involving observation, modeling, forecasting, warning, impact evaluation, and decision making. This session is dedicated to sharing work related to all aspects of this workflow. New Paper Published 🥳😇 My second paper entitled "Emulating human expertise in rezoning" is now published in the Australian Geographer 🌏 What is it all about? Effective design of regions for spatial statistical analysis. The method was applied to Mesh Blocks in the Australian Statistical Geography Standard. DOGAMI has published a new report! Open-File Report O-24-11, Improved Cascadia Earthquake Source Models for Tsunami Hazard Assessment, presents new geophysical model data constructed for the Cascadia Subduction Zone. The updated megathrust geometry model was guided by new data from the Cascadia Seismic Imaging Experiment 2021, low-frequency earthquakes (LFE) in Episodic Tremor and Slip (ETS) events, reinterpreted legacy seismic data, and seismicity information. The objective of this work is to help guide the next generation of tsunami modeling. This work benefitted from contributions from many people that made up the Cascadia Sources Working Group. I am thrilled to share that my recent research article, titled "𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐚 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐤, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐚, 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐞," has been published in the highly regarded open-access Q1 journal 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 (Impact Factor: 4.2), specializing in the field of remote sensing. This study explores the innovative use of 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲 for precise flood mapping of a narrow water channel, highlighting its application in the South Chickamauga Creek watershed in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The article demonstrates the effectiveness of high-resolution satellite imagery (3m x 3m resolution) in flood detection and mapping. It provides valuable insights into leveraging remote sensing techniques for flood risk assessment and management—critical for addressing climate change impacts and enhancing disaster preparedness. I’m incredibly grateful to Dr. AKM Azad Hossain, whose guidance, support, and encouragement transformed this work from a classroom project into a full-fledged journal publication.
