NVIDIA stock increased 338,850% since IPO and is now the world's largest company by mkt cap ($3.35T). It wasn’t easy. Jensen Huang shares the most important thing when building a company: "...The company building process is mechanical. It's interesting. Lots of trial and error. It's organic. People matter. Personalities matter. ...And then I would say probably the most important thing is to realize that when you're building a company and a product, skill matters. Intellect matters. Training matters. But it's not enough. The part of it that is important to realize about building companies is that it's a challenging and painful and oftentimes extraordinarily scary thing to do. And so unless you have passion, unless you really love the process of building the company and what you're trying to do, it's going to be incredibly, incredibly challenging."

As I can remember, the situation at Computex has been declining since 2012, especially after the significant rise of China's mobile internet. I remember Jack Ma's words in 2012: "A little over a month ago, I went to Taiwan, and at a dinner table, there were a group of very elderly entrepreneurs, their hair all white, and everyone was talking about innovation, how to innovate? Someone beside me said that Taiwan has hope, but I thought, these people are so old and still talking about innovation. Later, I said Taiwan has no hope." But this year's Computex is completely different. The Computex event, which opened on June 3, had an extremely luxurious guest lineup. The heavyweight CEOs from the global chip industry were all present, including Jensen Huang from Nvidia, Lisa Su from AMD, Pat Gelsinger from Intel, Cristiano Amon from Qualcomm, and Rene Haas from ARM. Each CEO vied to take the stage at the opening ceremony. Computex, which had been declining year by year, suddenly became the focus of global attention. After ten years, those Taiwanese PC industry entrepreneurs who were once called old by Jack Ma also attended Computex this year, remaining in a fighting state. Each of them is filled with hope for the industrial transformation that AI will bring. A few years ago, China seemed to share the stage equally with the US in the field of AI, but all in a sudden, the US has regained its global innovation dominance due to generative AI. Thanks to TSMC and its related industry chain, Computex has once again become the global focus. The previously less innovative PC industry has also become active again due to the AI PCs launched by Microsoft and Qualcomm. The world is entering the era of AI, from advanced semiconductor processes and CoWoS advanced packaging, all the way to AI Data Centers necessary for cloud computing and AI PCs for end-use AI applications. Taiwan holds a pivotal position in the global supply chain, controlling key components to system assembly, making its status difficult to shake. From the AI server-related supply chain to the AI-themed products that are ubiquitous at this Computex, there is no doubt that we have indeed entered the next economic cycle. Is Jensen Huang the Pablo Escobar of AI? Yes, yes he is. NVIDIA has been dominating. Not only in technology development,  but they are also leading as premier investors and buyers in AI. This year, they bought Run: ai and Deci AI. These companies specialize in optimizing AI workloads. These acquisitions underline NVIDIA's ongoing commitment to enhancing AI performance —a focus that has long been part of its strategy. In terms of investment, NVIDIA participated in 10 rounds involving VC-backed AI companies this year alone. Those deals include 7 rounds that were more than $100 million, including: Scale AI: Contributed to a $1 billion funding round, valuing the data labeling firm at $13.8 billion. Figure: Part of a $675 million round, with a pre-money valuation of $2 billion. Mistral AI: Joined a $640 million mix of debt and equity, bringing the valuation to $6 billion. NVIDIA’s venture arm, NVentures, made 4 major deals, including an $85 million Series C for the AI-powered farming robotics company Carbon Robotics. Last year, NVIDIA closed 22 funding deals in AI and another 10 through NVentures. Brian Siegelwax, despite his self-proclaimed title as "The least qualified person in quantum," is actually a core thought leader in the space. He has rolled up his sleeves and actually programmed many (if not all) the available cloud-based quantum computers, so speaks from firsthand knowledge. I have previously covered the impressive Atom Computing/Microsoft Azure logical qubit achievement but thought Brian added some important details, which you can read about below. And not only does Brian always inform but often entertains as well.

As someone who follows technological developments, I see this as a healthy reality check rather than a setback. The quantum computing field has been caught in a cycle of hype and disappointment, much like AI was in its early days. Google's recent Willow chip announcement generated excitement, but Huang's assessment reminds us that transformative technologies often require longer development timelines than market enthusiasm suggests. The truth lies in understanding what "very useful" means in this context. Current quantum computers excel at specific tasks like cryptography and molecular simulation, but they're far from the universal problem-solvers some envision. It's similar to how early classical computers were excellent at calculations but couldn't stream videos or run modern applications. What's particularly interesting is that this timeline actually aligns with historical technological development patterns. The transition from vacuum tubes to transistors to integrated circuits took decades, and each step was crucial. We're at a similar juncture with quantum computing – the fundamental building blocks exist, but scaling them into practical, error-corrected systems is a different challenge altogether. While quantum computing will eventually revolutionize fields from drug discovery to climate modeling, the path there will be gradual and nonlinear. The most valuable developments might come from unexpected directions, just as classical computing's greatest impacts weren't predicted in its early days. Rather than viewing this as a setback, I see it as an opportunity to focus on the incremental advances that will ultimately enable quantum computing's practical applications. After all, true technological revolutions don't happen overnight – they're built on thousands of small breakthroughs and countless hours of dedicated research.

Incisive analysis by Sequoia partner David Cahn on the missing $600 billion in AI revenue... Basically, given what companies are spending on Nvidia's chips and infrastructure build out, a certain amount of resulting revenue is implied. There is a $600 Billion gap. Everyone is talking about Nvidia's AI leadership of GPU, but nobody talks about China's AI technology catch-up. I personally believe by the end of 2026, China will be able to produce its own GPU chipset with its own 2nm manufacturing capability, without need to use ASML equipment and other imported technologies. At that time, it will tremendously impact global AI chip price - from current $30K per GPU chip to less than $300 per GPU. We will see in about 26-28 months.

AI AI AI AI AI This company was at least a trillion dollars overvalued going into those earnings. To repeat ad nauseum, while for the next couple of quarters they can grow several billion a quarter one of the following will happen before 2025 is out: AMD will increase supply faster (that's what their stock price implies) and gain share commensurate with price / performance as their software improves ARM based designs will also benefit from a shift to localization of cloud compute e.g. AAPL phones through Qualcomm chips Cloud vendors will lighten up on demand because corporate clients are facing a recession / failed use cases. (Right now, everyone is experimenting, and this is a legitimately good decision, but what percentage of experiments succeed?) As a result, there will be a marked slowdown, if not negative comps. At which point the stock will be down 40+% from its peak.
