The transaction is subject to approval by the European competition authorities. EQOS specializes in complex energy transmission and distribution, telecommunications and rail. In 2023, EQOS generated revenues of €459 mn and has nearly 1,700 employees in 43 locations in Europe, mainly in Germany and Austria. The strategic rationale in a nutshell: With the acquisition of EQOS, French Eiffage is finally able to realize its desired footprint with a strong EPC player in the German HV powerlines market - the market with the highest demand for energy infrastructure investments in Europe over the next decade, driven by the German Energiewende, digitalization and the resulting effects such as decentralization of power generation, higher electricity demand, etc., plus the aging power grid as "background noise".  Whereas Triton, which acquired EQOS from Alpine-Energie back in 2014, had to go through a deep valley with EQOS before achieving a turnaround and selling a profitable business with expected low double-digit Ebitda margins. Mirova, part of Natixis Investment Managers, has reached a final close of its first impact private equity fund, Mirova Environment Acceleration Capital (MEAC). MEAC raised €211 million in commitments and has already deployed over €80 million in 10 companies across Europe and North America, focusing on clean energy, circular economy, natural resources, agri-agro technologies, and smart cities, since launching two years ago. “With this first private equity fund, we are proud to have delivered on our ambitions to invest in unlisted companies displaying a high environmental impact,” said Marc Romano, Head of Impact Private Equity at Mirova. “We already completed ten investments in key sectors of the ecological transition, with the aim of achieving attractive financial returns. We remain convinced that positive impact and profitability go hand in hand, particularly when it comes to companies that are driven by fundamental trends designed to meet specific sustainable development objectives.” Mirova noted that the fund attracted significant interest, with 30% of its commitments coming from private clients drawn to its multi-thematic approach under the SFDR Article 9 framework. [#Healthcare] Eurazeo and Kurma Partners, group’s Health venture subsidiary, are thrilled to announce their first co-investment, the second Growth Equity investment of the Nov Santé Actions Non Cotées Fund, in the company PANTERA. As part of this €93m fundraising, both will have a minority stake in the company’s capital alongside EQT Life Sciences, the operation’s lead arranger. 👩‍🔬 The result of a research partnership initiated in 2019 between IBA (Ion Beam Applications S.A.), specialist in particle acceleration technologies, and the Belgian Nuclear Research Center SCK CEN, PanTera is a company created in 2022 whose goal is to produce Actinium-225 on a large scale. 🔍 This radioisotope shows particularly promising characteristics in the fight against cancer given its ability to eliminate cancer cells more deeply whilst saving as much as possible of the healthy surrounding tissues. Numerous clinical trials are underway in the treatment of certain cancers and leukemia, notably neuroendocrine and prostate cancers. 🏥 The co-investment between Nov Santé Actions Non Cotées and Kurma Partners reaffirms the Eurazeo group’s leadership in the strategic healthcare sector. “Is ELTIF 2.0. the key to the retailisation of Private Equity?” is definitely one of the questions we touched upon during the roundtable Frédéric Pérard from STP had the pleasure to co-moderate during the #LPEA Tech Day on 22 May, 2024. The main take-aways of this interesting discussion can be sumarized as follows: 1- Most ELTIF 2.0 new projects are open ended funds with potential high volumes of retail investors; 2- this implies more onboarding work, including AML / KYC and therefore more cost; 3- it also requires to address specific aspects like long lock-up period and the need for liquidity; 4- GPs need to adapt their fee structure to make them simpler and easier to manage; 5- ManCos and Asset Servicers need to get properly equipped to process a mix of bankable and non bankable assets, often held in very different systems… 6- Consequently, ELTIFs 2.0. seem promising but challenging. Helexia France, a service provider for on-site rooftops and solar carport installations, just got a €60 million financing facility. French banks Bpifrance and La Banque Postale led the financing round, and La Banque Postale Asset Management also took part. In June 2023, Helexia secured €90 million in debt financing from across Europe.   Founded in 2010 by Benjamin Simonis and Nicolas MAYAUD, the company with this investment will manage its portfolio of 290 operational photovoltaic rooftops and solar carports across Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.   The company was acquired by French renewables company Voltalia in 2019. They have successfully finished over 1,785 solar projects, with a total of 386 MW currently operating.   CEO Benjamin Simonis says, “We are thrilled to secure this additional financing, which allows us to further expand our renewable energy expertise across Europe. As we begin 2025, I'm deeply grateful for the trust placed in us by industrial leaders, founders, investors, and the core team of the OSS ecosystem. Let me share some key milestones from 2024: OSS Ventures reached its 5-year milestone Secured €8.5M in new funding Expanded to 21 portfolio companies (+5 this year) Achieved our first official exit, alongside 5 successful fundraising rounds Grew portfolio cARR to €34M (90% growth) Deployed across 2,200 operational sites (40% France, 40% EU excluding France, 20% US) Reached approximately 80,000 monthly active users Looking ahead to 2025, here are some reflections on our model and emerging trends: Manufacturing's Renaissance In late 2019, a European investor dismissed manufacturing as "just a niche." Fast forward through COVID, and we've seen both a16z and YC position manufacturing as a core thesis in 2024. Ironically, that same investor hosted a reshoring conference in December. Times certainly change. The Widening Performance Gap Working closely with both industrial firms and startups, we're witnessing an accelerating divide. Top-performing companies are moving faster than ever, while struggling ones are falling behind more rapidly. The AI era seems to be amplifying this power law distribution. |US Market Acceleration Despite none of our portfolio companies having a US office yet, sales to US-headquartered companies jumped from 5% to 20% of total revenue in just one year. Three portfolio companies are planning US office launches in 2025, and we expect significant growth given the unprecedented pace of reshoring efforts and technology's integral role in this transformation. Rethinking Early-Stage Investment Our conversations with founders and investors reveal that "early-stage" encompasses vastly different company types: from execution-focused businesses with minimal tech risk to moonshots in space manufacturing, foundational models, or nuclear fusion. The current one-size-fits-all approach of equity financing with minimal debt may no longer be appropriate for this diverse landscape. The Rise of Studios When we launched OSS, we weren't familiar with the "startup studio" concept. While drawing inspiration from Sutter Hill Ventures and Renaissance Technologies LLC, we looked up to Hexa. Now, thanks to influencers like Max Pog studios are becoming mainstream.
