What are the most effective ways to price AI consulting services?
If it's an exploratory engagement, an effort based calculation is used. The hourly rate is a function of the consultant's or their team's expertise, technical knowledge and urgency of resources. If the outcome for the client has clear expectations, the pricing has two components - fixed and variable. The fixed component is estimated on the basis of effort - time, skillset of engineers, resources involved.. And the variable component is estimated on the basis of impact or usage. For AI products, the pricing is quite different: mostly on the basis of value derived by the customer. In both the cases though, it's critical to know your costs and the value to the customer.
