A bipartisan permitting reform bill was released on Monday. The proposed legislation supports FERC's authority to approve transmission lines and paves the way to require interregional transmission planning. If passed, the law would also require planners to consider advanced conductors and reconductoring in order to maximize current transmission capabilities. Grid Assurance was pleased to work with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in their recent report to Congress titled Large Power Transformer Resilience.  🚀PJM Transition Cycle #1 Results and Decision Point #1 Start🚀 Exciting news! Today, PJM posted the results for 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 #𝟏 (𝐓𝐂𝟏) 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐈 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲. To connect 45.5GW Energy and 27.7GW of Capacity, the cluster study identified approximately $10 billion in reliability network upgrades, predominantly in Dominion and ComEd, where around 60% of MW from the queue plans to connect. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟏𝐬𝐭, 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 #𝟏 (𝐃𝐏𝟏) 𝐤𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟 and will run for 30 days. PJM has released the results of their 2025/2026 Base Residual Auction. These results set each utility's capacity cost for the 2025/2026 capacity year. "The auction produced a price of $269.92/MW-day for much of the PJM footprint, compared to $28.92/MW-day for the 2024/2025 auction." For a typical customer with a 50% load profile, the new capacity costs will increase your electric rate by more than $0.015/kWh, in most utilities. This increase will be treated as a "change in law", and will be passed on to the ultimate consumer. Even though you cannot avoid this increase, there are strategies available to lesser the blow.
