Are wellness companies going to suffer as a result of the "PE Ozempic Diet" and have limited exit options as more Americans adopt GLP-1s? What about healthcare companies? Private Equity has also played a big role in funding healthcare service companies which may be similarly impacted as patients need less medical care [i.e. Primary Care, Specialty Clinics, Emergency Departments, Hospitalizations and Diagnostics]. On the flip side, GLP-1s could be the catalyst that gets more healthcare providers to accept more health risk and enter value based contracts. Value based contracts generally pay providers a flat rate per member per month, adjusted for the health risk of the insured population. If the health risks of the population decline, the payment decreases which means, widespread GLP-1s could lower healthcare costs for an entire population. How do consumers/patients benefit? Healthcare consumers would pay less for health insurance because the plan pays less for care. The lower cost of care means people pay less out of pocket in terms of co-pays and hopefully, deductibles and annual maximum. Healthcare may become affordable to the uninsured and underinsured. The questions that remains is whether the cost of GLP-1s will be low enough to facilitate widespread adoption and whether there are any long term issues that will negate the potential savings. #wellbeing #innovation #healthcare #transformation

What is the advice you would give companies who are thinking about taking capital from strategics? Information rights, such as access to board materials, can give strategics a competitive edge if they later decide to enter the same market. A ROFR may seem harmless but often discourages other strategics from pursuing the company, as they don’t want to waste resources on a deal another party can easily claim.
