Last week Adrian Gore presented Discovery Limited's financial results for the year ending 30 June 2024 to the investor community. Discovery delivered another exceptional result, thriving in a complex environment. I am very proud of Discovery’s results and especially in Discovery Life’s strong contribution to these results. The highlights at a Discovery group level were: Normalised profits from operations up 17% to R11.6bn and new business growth up 18% to R26.7bn. Discovery Life’s performance was brilliant, thank you to the entire Discovery Life team for these strong results, it reflects our collective efforts. The environment was complex with high inflation and rising interest rates impacting consumers and fierce competition on the ground for new business. It is especially during tough environments that our Shared Value model shows it's worth and value to our customers providing competitive premiums, valuable paybacks and cash conversions in addition to comprehensive award-winning protection benefits. We have continued to grow our market share through innovation. From a reporting point of view, this was the first full year set of results that we produced under the new IFRS17 accounting standard, a very complex and demanding standard. You can experience and see the blood and sweat of the actuarial, accounting and systems teams when you turn the pages. The embedded value performance for Discovery Ltd (including Invest) was strong with a 14% return on embedded value and improving new business margin.
