There’s a trend I’ve been noticing recently. In many conversations I’ve had with developers and generalists across the industry, more and more people are investing time (and money) into learning Unreal Engine—either as a side skill or making a full pivot. The reasons? From what I’m hearing, it comes down to higher demand for Unreal Engine expertise. In my experience, this shift is becoming quite clear on the technical and developer side of things. I've offered my services as a professional game developer for 6 years. But you won't believe the weird pattern I noticed as a pro. Burnout isn't real! Yup. This burnout that's plaguing most people is not real. My hot take: most pros who feel "burnt out" are just bored. Well, I'll admit that oversimplifies things a bit. What I mean is that they aren't particularly overwhelmed with too much. They are simply not creatively engaged. Most game devs I know love a challenge. And let's face it...game development is hard! But I feel like we are tuned to work on stuff that could seem overwhelming. Except for when we feel like our creativity has been limited. I’m convinced that if a dev truly owns their creative process, they can face any challenge. P.S. Have you ever felt “burnt out”? Or just bored?

React Native folks out there - are you aware of any up-to-date courses on LinkedIn learning for it? I've tried two different ones and hit a wall because they are outdated enough that what ends up on my screen is markedly different than what is on the instructor's screen. Any recommendations are appreciated. #reactnative

Lately, I'm running into an issue with senior devs not being able to pass coding screens. I'm NOT talking multi-day take home projects or leet code style questions that require dynamic programming. I'm talking the equivalent of fizzbuzz. -- tic tac toe in react -- pulling data from a data store in python -- using types in typescript ... Anyone noticing the same thing? How much prep should a senior dev really need to do these tests?

I've been dabbling in HTMX recently and it fascinates me in the sense that it feels like a framework for developers who didn't like the complexity that comes with most modern JS frameworks. JS fatigue is very real, but I'm not convinced that HTMX is the solution. I do like how clean and simple it is, but personally I would rather take React and all the complexity that can come with it in exchange for the convenience of features like state management, over something like this.
