Talks by: Janet Huang, Dave Murray-Rust and Simon Maris Introduction to Feminist Generative AI  In this interactive session, we’ll take you through some of the ideas around feminist generative AI - how can we develop GenAI with greater ethical integrity, tailored to benefit those with less societal privilege, and aligned with the values and needs of marginalised communities, using technology as a tool for empowerment and social justice. When we talk about ‘human in the loop’, stress the importance of focusing on the aspects of any process that Generative AI is good at then leaving the others to humans, rarely do tools appear to be empathetic to that mantra. Perhaps it’s the ‘great AI-arms race’ to be the best or the blistering speed of development that hampers thoughtful human-computer design in most AI tools we have seen in the last 2 years. Yet, Wonder Dynamics https://lnkd.in/ghxnGBNg should be applauded for flying in the face of the norms in this regard. As well as looking like a super-exciting advancement in a very laborious task - animation, their use of GenAI in the process carefully positions the user and the tech. To me, this shows the way forward for AI tool development. I want to be able to quickly understand where I have control in a creative process and where I don’t. And I want the software developers to have used domain specific expertise to have found that out. Benay Gursoy Toykoc from Penn State University's ForMat Lab will be discussing her lab's research into the exploration of emergent forms generated by the uncertainties in 3D Printing procceses, at CDFAM - Computational Design Symposium in NYC. How through controlled experiments and feedback loops, these variations may be tuned to produce forms not easily 'designed' with 3D modeling. Every few years Silicon Valley goes through a hype cycle where some technology X is supposed to change the world. Almost every time what the pundits claim will happen rarely does. Most of the time the world is fundamentally changed but the pace of change is much slower than expected. This time around with GenAI though the world IS actually changing and it is changing so fast that if you are not paying attention you are going to be left far behind your competitors. This is why as a company we have decided to go through a fundamental transformation from a purely people led organization to an AI enabled one that is each and everything our talented team is capable of building we are seeing if GenAI can do instead or help us do better. The series below is about how we are transforming our Games services business. We will be sharing how our other studios are doing in additional series in the future

I have been thinking about the implications of GenerativeAI on Design for a while and after being at ArtCenter College of Design for the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design (AICAD) Symposium: Teaching for Tomorrow: Redesigning the Future where I gave a talk on GenAI in UX / UI design courses as well as sat in on several fascinating sessions about the use of AI in the design process. Conversations and inspiration from Dimitris C. Papadopoulos and Derek Wood and others helped push this article out the door. News flash: Amy Peck and I took a long trip to the year 2040 and came back to talk about it. Interesting research on AI being used by human artists. Main takeaway? "While artists who used AI showed decreasing average novelty over time as compared to controls, both in terms of the content of their images as well as pixel-level stylistic elements, peak content novelty among AI adopters is marginally increasing over time, suggesting an expanding creative space but with inefficiencies. Still, artists of all levels of creative ability are evaluated more favorably after adopting AI if they successfully explore new concepts but are generally penalized for using AI for exploring novel visual styles. According to the authors, this result hints at the potential complementarity between human ideation and filtering abilities as the core expressions of creativity in a text-to-image workflow, thus giving rise to a phenomenon they term as "generative synesthesia"—the harmony of human idea exploration and AI visual exploitation to discover new creative workflows."
