You’ve all heard about satellites, but not everyone knows that they orbit at different altitudes. Most of them operate on LEO (around 400 km above the Earth’s surface). Today, Marat Airapetian, co-founder of Space Ambition , published an article discussing the significance of promising new orbits like VLEO (180–300 km above the Earth’s surface). In his article, he explains why these orbits will become commercially viable within the next 10 years and why it was previously impossible to launch satellites into these orbits. We believe that in the future, more startups will focus on building constellations in VLEO. The agri drone story of India By RR, Investor and Mentor to AvironiX Drones, Vayu Drone Services and Magnipower Technology LLP Chapter 2 A date to remember - Feb 9, 2022 Six months and two days after the Drone Policy 2021 was announced, the DGFT banned the import of drones into India. Until then, Chinese companies had been selling fully assembled agricultural drones in the country. Following the import ban, numerous drone companies emerged in India, quickly adapting popular off-the-shelf international platforms to develop their own 10-litre agricultural drone solutions. As I participated in various agricultural forums across India, one question always puzzled me: why did agri-drones mainly come in 10-litre models when knapsack sprayers were available in 10L, 16L, and 20L variants? The answer, interestingly, had little to do with agriculture. Once drone companies exceeded 10L capacity and 16,000 mAh batteries, the drones surpassed the 25 kg weight limit and were classified as medium-sized drones. No agricultural drone in the Indian market has effectively addressed this issue—until now. I've just tested OpenAI's latest model, o1-preview, and compared it to GPT-4o. The difference is simply mind-blowing! 🤯 I asked both models to provide recommendations for preparing a contract between Dronehub (an aerospace company dealing with sensitive information) and a B2B software engineer. The reasoning approach of the new model compared to GPT-4o is like comparing the thinking of a 6-year-old child to a graduating college student. Impressive! 🚀 But still, it's crucial to know when to use each model: - o1-preview is ideal for complex tasks requiring deep analysis: strategy, coding, mathematics, science. - GPT-4o remains the best choice for most tasks including routine automation, especially those requiring the use of tools and image processing. What o1 can't do yet: - Work with external files (PDF, Excel, doc...) - Process current information from the internet And, of course, there's the price factor. The new model is still very expensive via API, so it's essential to carefully consider use cases to avoid incurring thousands of dollars in costs within your organization. I am pleased to share with you some exciting developments in the space ecosystem in the last week: 🚀 The global space economy grew 7.4% in 2023 to $570B, according to the Space Foundation’s annual Space Report, and nearly doubled in size in the last decade. This continued development showcases significant growth and expanding opportunities across the sector. 🇬🇧 The UK Space Agency announced at the beginning of Farnborough Airshow this week that it awarded £33 million to more than 20 innovation-forward space projects. This funding aims to boost innovation, support cutting-edge projects, and solidify the UK's position as a leader in the space industry. 🛰 Seraphim portfolio company Astroscale announced that its British subsidiary secured around $15 million from the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency to support the last and fourth phase of ELSA-M, or End of Life Services by Astroscale-Multiple mission, which will deorbit Eutelsat OneWeb satellite. This initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable space operations and the reduction of space debris. 💰 Astranis Space Technologies has raised $200 million to fully fund its Omega program up to the launch of the first next-generation broadband spacecraft in 2026. Space economy: major growth driver of science & technology across the globe McKinsey report Space:$1.8Tn opportunity for global economic growth says space economy would be a major driver for overall global economy by 2035. Space economy will grow from $600mn to $1.8Tn at CAGR of 9% from 2023 to 2035. It also predicts the space economy will impact major businesses like supply chain, eCommerce, automotive, consumer electronics, fintech. Half of the economy would be the backbone - satellite, TV, launchers, GPS etc., but the other half would be the reach economy wherein everything from smartphone connectivity to managing warehouse from New York to Nagpur will get impacted. Main drivers of space economy has been the exponential increase in satellite launches combined with sharp drop in launch costs, using cutting edge technologies like reusable rockets, high speed data etc. Indian space economy is opening up in big way. This is one area where a Govt owned entity ISRO has driven the business to international levels competing with best in the world. In India the number of Space Start-Ups have gone up, from just 1 in 2014 to 189 in 2023 (DPIIT Start-Up India Portal). Skyroot, Agnikul being the two stellar startups in the space. Investment in Indian Space Start-Ups increased to $ 124.7 Million in 2023. Indian Space Economy expected to grow from around $8.4 billion to $44 billion Indian by 2033 (Govt of India). Within the past decade, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved momentous milestones. August 23, 2023, was a historic day for the Indian space arena, with India becoming one of the only four countries to successfully land a spacecraft on the lunar surface. With Chandrayaan-3 landing making a successful touchdown on the moon’s surface, India also became the only country to land on the unchartered south pole of the moon. India currently holds approximately 2% share of the global space economy. There are more than 400 entities engaged with ISRO, including numerous large corporations as well as MSME players that have been working towards developing myriad systems and components for a more advanced space infrastructure and successful launches. India will allow 100% foreign direct investment in the manufacture of satellite systems without official approval, aiming for a greater share of the global space market. Already with missions like Mangalyan, Aditya ISRO is getting front seat at global level on space exploration. With visionaries like Elon planning to make humans the first and the only multi planetary species, space business opportunities are hotting up. Space is no longer the final frontier...

This is the exact application I envision for the SpaceDataNetwork software I am building. The only issue I take is with issuing CDMs as the primary form of conjunction notification. The conjunction assessment algorithms used should all be open source and run at the edge. Data that is used for individual conjunctions (ephemeris, state vectors, element sets, etc.) must be shared, allowing all participants to do as many iterations as required for their own analysis, whether that is maneuver planning, launch COLA, etc. If there is a cost associated with the data source, the cost must be borne by the regulatory agencies charged with traffic management. If the cost is infeasible, the data too infrequently used, or the data is not openly available, the system must use homomorphic encryption (like the Paillier ecosystem of algorithms) to protect proprietary or classified data sources while still enabling conjunction assessment calculations.
