It's December 2024 and people are calling me because they are struggling to set and justify budgets for data and analytics staffing and strategic investments within their organizations in 2025. Big problems:   🔴 Benchmarking their current #Data and #Analytics (D&A) spending against their industry peers. 🔴 Outdated funding models that hinder their ability to adapt to evolving business needs. 🔴 Performance metrics that still focus on internal technology objectives, not business outcomes.   These are common issues that my colleagues Claire Song, Alan D. Duncan and JC Martel, PhD and I (David Pidsley) hear a lot right now. What makes a tool great? There are a multitude of sites (and scores of books) on the subject, but if you want a quick and easy example, take a look at FRED, a 33-year-old data tool from the Federal Reserve of St. Louis. It’s popular across the political spectrum and the professional as well, beating out even expensive state-of-the-art alternatives. And while changes are coming in 2025, it’s still in heavy use both at home and abroad, with some 825,000 data series.
