As Rick Broida points out in the headline... WE KNOW that picture quality is something that we need to deliver. But that is not enough for an experience that delivers delight. After working for years to listen, think through, and address the pain-points that our streamers need to face; it is incredibly rewarding to hear "Great picture, sure, but it's the myriad little attentions to detail that made me fall in love with the Pro.". At Roku, we are committed to sweating the details so you don't need to. The Mini-LED QLED design was meant to punch above its weight in picture quality but that was not enough for the team... These "little" details are what separate competency (pretty common in the tech business) with delightful (what we endeavor to deliver every day with every Roku product). We heard our fans express a need for backlit remotes and USB-C charging and we delivered on that with the new Roku Voice Remote Pro v2. Customers don't ask for cable management with convenient hook&loop straps to make it easy, but we know that they need it and will find it a joy because we have watched them struggle to install a TV without the spaghetti of wires hanging out. Our Streamers don't ask for legs that can be easily and firmly attached to the TV without tools, but we know that they will enjoy it because we watch them set up TVs in our labs and we talk to them after their purchases. Smart Picture will change the overall experience for the 94% of people that never touch their picture settings (and while we're at it... Smart Sound does the same thing for audio.) Nobody expects this "smart friend" to help them, but we do it anyway. This list could go on and on, but... The point is that the Roku Pro Series is the ultimate TV built for you by people that simply LIVE AND LOVE TV! Overall, I could not be more proud of the Roku team that has delivered on our dreams. This is the best overall TV that I have every been a part of. Speaking from well over 30 years in the TV business should lend some pretty healthy weight to that opinion!

Comcast is moving ahead with plans to spin off its NBCU cable networks, including MSNBC, CNBC, USA, E!, and Syfy. The formal announcement is expected tomorrow, and the process should take about a year to finalize. This decision reflects Comcast’s strategy to step away from the traditional cable TV business, which has been shrinking thanks to cord-cutting, and refocus on areas with more growth potential, like streaming, sports, and broadcast. Bravo, Peacock, and the NBC broadcast network are staying with NBCUniversal, given their stronger ties to Comcast’s core future plans. I see you, Below Deck. It’s a big shift for Comcast, a company that once prized its cable networks as crown jewels. But with cord-cutting reshaping the media landscape, this spin-off feels like a play to adapt and stay ahead. "I don't think frequency capping is as big a challenge as we think it is," says Mike Follett, CEO of Lumen Research AT #ATSL2024. Lumen, Havas Media Network, and Brand Metrics have teamed up for a massive brand lift study centered on attention metrics. Lots of interesting findings, including tying attention and business outcomes. More exposure says FOLLETT: "If you analyze display advertising on an individual impression basis, it looks like crap." We should be examining ads by packs of 10 or 20—it's the aggregate where we see the impact. Optimizing to outcomes are great, but it's also a lagging model. Attention can be optimized to in real time. The key is understanding how much attention is needed to get the job done—we can use it as a predictor rather than examining post-campaign metrics.

On the heels of the Walmart acquisition of VIZIO, Roku has partnered with The Trade Desk, allowing TTD’s customers with access to Roku's data to enhance campaign optimization for streaming viewers via ACR data. This is in line with Roku’s partnerships strategy and creating more demand and collaboration within their walled garden to drive yield with enhanced audience precision, but this behind the velvet rope of PMP deals. DIRECTV’s decision to abandon its acquisition of DISH Network due to bondholder opposition underscores a critical point: the pay-TV landscape is continuing to fragment as streaming takes center stage. The proposed merger, which would have created the largest U.S. pay-TV provider with 19 million subscribers, was seen as a way to consolidate a shrinking industry plagued by cord-cutting. But even $1 billion in potential cost synergies couldn’t overcome financial roadblocks. In a world dominated by Streaming TV, the failure of this deal reflects the increasing difficulty for legacy TV providers to adapt. Consumers demand flexibility, choice, and personalization—values that streaming platforms deliver natively. As cord-cutting accelerates, the focus shifts to innovation, aggregation, and delivering content where audiences are—streaming, not satellites. The implications are clear: the winners in this shifting landscape will be those who understand streaming is no longer a side business, but THE business.

Sure, smart TVs have changed a lot over the years. But are they optimized to engage viewers? Not always. Smart TV manufacturers are stuck between what they often view as two competing interests: improving users’ entertainment experience or capitalizing on advertising. Many are choosing to prioritize advertising at the expense of the user. It doesn’t have to be this way. Just as the industry accelerates its focus on the power of smart TV advertising, consumers are demonstrating peak advertising tolerance, according to our latest TiVo Video Trends Report. This means they’re willing to watch ads. But they don’t want to wade through irrelevant ones that gum up their viewing experience. It’s possible — and preferable — to balance the consumer experience with advertising priorities through search and recommendation. By placing the consumers’ preferences first, advertising can provide vastly more relevant sponsored ads by sprinkling them into content recommendations.
