Here are some key hiring trends amongst empoyers for 2024: ✔ Increased Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals: As companies prioritize data security and cloud migration, the demand for cybersecurity roles like Cybersecurity Managers, Cloud Security Engineers, and Network Security Engineers has surged. ✔ Cloud and AI-Driven Roles: With many businesses in Portland moving operations to the cloud, cloud security and data protection are becoming top priorities. Roles related to cloud technology and AI are also expected to expand, especially in cybersecurity. ✔ Talent Retention Challenges: Portland’s tech companies, particularly larger enterprises, struggle with retaining talent. SCAM ALERT! Heads up, folks! There's a concerning scam targeting Staffing Agencies in Southern California that we need to be aware of. Here's how the scam works: - A company calls in a panic, claiming their payroll person left and they need help processing payroll. - They send a deposit check that bounces, followed by a promised ACH that never materializes. - They cash the payroll checks, leaving the agency holding the bag for thousands of Dollars. This is a timely reminder for all of us in the staffing world to stay true to our client onboarding best practices and thoroughly research new clients' credit worthiness. This scam appears to be prevalent in the Inland Empire. Stat of the Day: 0.8 - Phoenix notched a 0.8 growth rate for tech jobs from 2022 to 2023, the 10th largest rate among Tech-30 markets. Other notable facts from CRBE's Tech-30 report: -Tech companies accounted for 38.5% of the $162.5 million in venture capital funding secured by Phoenix companies in the first half of this year. -Phoenix’s office market registered 1% rent growth from Q2 2023 to Q2 2024. #MarketMondays As 2024 winds down and plans for 2025 start to pick up I expect to see this #jobs map heat up come January for the Artificial Intelligence market. Here's some insight into the "hotter" markets currently posting job opportunities on their career pages. No surprise to see California leading the way with 13.7% of the jobs, but excited to see #Massachusetts crack the Top 5 with 4.2%. Day 1 here at Rectangle Health! Here's what I'm doing to cut down ramp-up time: 1. Failing fast One of the biggest leadership lessons I've learned is "Fire, Aim, Ready." The key is going to be getting in the trenches early, and not hesitating when it comes to activity. Even if I don't feel comfortable with my pitch, objection handling, familiarity to product, etc., I'm going to get as many reps in as possible. Fail fast. Learn from my mistakes and keep it moving. 2. Absorb The goal here is to ask as many questions as possible. The biggest thing I'll be looking to absorb is product knowledge and seek to learn from those already crushing it. No point in trying to re-invent the wheel. Those winning already will possess powerful insights. Leaving the ego at the door. Just pure learning and sponge-like absorption. 3. Low-hanging fruit For this, utilizing my own network to book early meetings will be key. This also ties into the fail fast portion. Even though I don't know it all when it comes to value props/product, etc. I can still get active and try for some early wins amongst people I already know. Any tips I missed!?

Why are Staffing agency markups dropping in California?? The California Staffing Market continues to lose margin as many temp staffing agencies have a created a price war. Some markups are as low as 19%! Recently a very good staffing supplier of ours Eric Garcia who runs a wonderful staffing business in California was victim to this when a fraudulent staffing supplier outbid him at 19%. This really hurts Eric’s business and put his client in jeopardy. But how is this possible?? How can an agency price services below the cost of doing business? Let me give you some ways it is happening: 1. Misclassification of workers comp codes 2. Not paying payroll taxes These are two of the most common reasons on how an agency can price below cost. Do YOU, the client, have any exposure??? YOU BETTER BELIEVE YOU DO!! Misclassification of workers comp in which YOU THE CLIENT benefit from can get you in BIG trouble. How can you (the staffing agency) better educate your clients on the risks of doing business with these kind of companies? Forward this post to your client or remind them of the risks they are taking when working with these fraudulent companies. I will share another post that can provide companies a check list on how to avoid these issues.
