It might be October, but 2025 healthcare staffing conversations are already happening. We mentioned last year that we saw a lot of rapid change in the way healthcare facilities source their clinical talent - and that's held true this year. Here's what we've seen and where we think next year is going.   Packaged Services Facilities have realized that plug and play staffing models, which toss random workers from different organizations into one department, don't work. At best, this results in a mix of experience levels; at worst, it diminishes the quality of care. Facilities are looking for cohesive teams that are vetted, accountable, and consistent in quality of care. That means working with partners who can package up services that cover every area in one efficient collaboration.   Versatility At the same time, facilities tell us they want to work with "feature-rich" partners - agencies that can bring a range of clinical specialties and contracts into play. Healthcare is a mercurial landscape. They want a solutions providers who is nimble enough to shift between practice management, direct hire, locums, accreditation support, staff training, consulting, and whatever else best suits the facility at any given time.   Clinical Leadership The old model of a staffing agency run by people with accounting and talent management backgrounds is fading out of the healthcare realm. Clinically led providers bring a deeper and more practical intelligence to partnerships, from process improvements to coverage and capacity management strategies to patient satisfaction. When that's paired with strong support in credentialing, payroll, scheduling and HR, you've got a partner who can literally transform facility operations on every level.   Let's be clear: this is an ongoing conversation and we're excited to be part of it. We're committed to continually improving the provider and patient experience, and that means we'll continue to innovate and refine our offerings throughout 2025 and beyond. Facing ongoing workforce challenges, SSM Health is leveraging ShiftMed's W-2 on-demand model to create a more stable, sustainable staffing solution.
