Pro tip for selling "Savings + Sustainability" to ops: Skip the discussion around sustainability and focus on savings. Operations folks do not want sustainability responsibilities in their swim lane. They don't want to report on it monthly, and sustainability initiatives are a distraction from their primary goals. Every initiative IQpack does has a positive environmental impact. But if we sell on sustainability, interest from ops drops 90%. Dip the carrot in chocolate and sell the chocolate!

I am excited to be a recent investor in Robomart. This new category of Retail Hailing, which they have a patent on, is going to transform the retailing space similar to what pioneering Jim Brinton of Avanti Markets did when he created the new category of a #MicroMarkets aka #UnattendedRetail in 2009. ReadyTouch, that I was COO and CFO, provided the self-service POS software to Avanti until it was acquired by 365 Retail Markets followed by Avanti and 365 merging a few tears back. A Top 3 Beverage Company was under global pressure to reduce its carbon footprint while facing competition from innovative start-ups redefining water use. PathForward took on the procurement-led sourcing challenge, competing against the largest printer manufacturers in the world to evaluate current practices, costs, and strategies. We collaborated with the client to develop a holistic less-paper strategy that not only bolstered their sustainability message but also provided hard metrics to substantiate their efforts. Together, we formed a worldwide governance team to create a unified impact across the organization, addressing the challenge on a global scale. In their largest country, the client reduced the number of devices from dozens per floor to just 2 per floor, and post-COVID, devices were moved to every other floor. Printing has now become the exception, leading to a cost reduction of over 65%. In the US, they combined their data center and internal production center, eliminating fixed costs and lowering total costs by more than 45%. So many important take-outs from this article. The NRF Big Show in New York earlier this year confirmed that we are all well past the discussion of RFID as an emerging technology. “If you do not have RFID, if you do not have serialized data on your products, you cannot compete.” Bill Hardgrave - University of Memphis. "Companies that are using RFID in their retail operations averaged profit growth that was 57 percent higher than those which did not. In 2024, the same companies are expecting profitability to be 88 percent higher than those not already using RFID." - IHL Retail winners (2023 sales growth >10 percent) are 32 times more likely to be using RFID technology than below average retailers and 20.5 times more likely to be planning to deploy RFID within the next twelve months. But most importantly - RFID technology is an enabler and not an automatic panacea that solves all problems. It can very effectively address the technologies priorities outlined in the opening of this article. Properly implemented it has the potential to revolutionize retail operations and optimize the profitability of the retail industry.
