What does the future of exploration look like on the Norwegian continental shelf? 🌍 This was the topic when our colleague, Ida Ianssen Lundh, SVP Subsurface, joined the panel "The Future of Exploration on the NCS - Increasing Costs, Competitiveness & Policy" at the NCS Exploration Strategy event. Europe faces an energy crunch, and Norway's oil and gas sector is stepping up, with record investments planned for 2024. Ida made the following points: ✔️ Focus on cooperation: ⁃ with our suppliers to enable smart and cost-efficient developments. ⁃ with licence partners to align interests and enable developments, avoiding being stuck in commercial discussions. ✔️ Solving «technical enablers»: ⁃ extended reach drilling from new and existing infrastructure. ⁃ multidisciplinary early-phase engineering to enable lean and cost-efficient subsea tiebacks. ✔️ Continuous optimisation of production and the maturation of new volumes to extend the lifetime of existing infrastructure on the NCS, which again will trigger more area exploration. We are excited to join forces with our new industry partner, A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research. Together with A*STAR´s Institute of High-Performance Computing (IHPC) we will uncover how the introduction of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will impact the global maritime industry, shipowners and the many stakeholders. In addition, we explore and define how AI and data driven insight can support the industry's journey towards decarbonization and the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. BUNKER HOLDING AND SYNTEXNRG INK GREEN METHANOL SUPPLY AGREEMENT MI member Bunker Holding and renewable fuels and technology company SyntexNRG have entered into an agreement for the development and production of renewable methanol to supply the fuel at the ports where the marine fuel supplier has physical operations located around the world. In a statement issued today (7 May), the companies said the Syntex premium methanol will meet ‘even the most rigid of low-carbon emissions standards set by multiple decarbonisation programs’, including the European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS) for marine fuels, the FuelEU Maritime Initiative, and the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2030 and 2050 emission reduction targets. ‘Bunker Holding recognises methanol as one of the most ready-to-transition future fuels for the industry. This need to secure access to green methanol, considered a top choice for decarbonising the marine industry, forms the basis and essence of the partnership between SyntexNRG and Bunker Holding as shown with this agreement,’ said Carlos G. Torres, Global Head of Methanol and Strategic Partnerships at Bunker Holding A/S. ‘We pride ourselves on being a solution-driven provider to our clients. Our role in the market has been around aggregating demand from our customers and providing the most cost-effective supply solutions, through our widely experienced global organisation. With the transition to low-carbon marine fuels, we see our role evolving to better serve our customers’ needs in the future.’ Torres continued: ‘One of the key roles that we would play in this low-carbon world, is enabling the entrance of new producers of the new fuels and providing a valuable way to aggregate supply from multiple sources and geographies and marry that supply with our customers’ demand around the world. TECO 2030 and BLOM Maritime to retrofit Samskip LNG vessel with hydrogen fuel cells #TECO2030 and #BLOMMaritime have received an #Enova grant for a pre-project aiming to retrofit multimodal logistics company Samskip’s vessel #Kvitnos with TECO 2030 #fuelcells and zero-emission #hydrogen fuel. Are Gråthen, regional director, Norway and Sweden, Samskip, said, “With the delivery of our #LNG-propelled multipurpose vessels back in 2015, #Samskip already offered one of the world’s most environmentally friendly cargo ships, which eliminated SOx emissions while drastically reducing NOx and CO2 emissions. With this grant from #Enova, and in close cooperation with fuel cell provider TECO 2030. We will continue our endeavor to enable full zero-emission propulsion which in turn will further pave the way for our H2-propelled new-builds coming out next year and bring us closer to our #netzero targets for 2040.” Erik Hofmeester, head of fleet management at Samskip, added, “Samskip embraces every opportunity to reduce #CO2 emissions either through using #biofuels, CO2 capture-systems, shore-power, innovative new-building vessels, and now also into retrofit solutions. Using the power take-in device (PTI) driving the propellor with green energy allows our existing vessels to sail and maneuver emission-free in the Norwegian Fjords and other coastal areas.” Tore Enger, group CEO of TECO 2030, commented, “This grant shows our capability to help our clients secure public funding for smaller pre-studies, this means they can focus on progress towards their ultimate goals of zero-emission shipping. Pioneering Debate on the Future of the Seabed 🐙 Stavanger, May 31 - A panel debate on a hot topic brings together technology leaders and prominent researchers to discuss the future of seabed mining, the oil industry, and offshore wind. The event coincides with the EU's regulations for sustainability reporting come into force (CSRD), where approximately 1,200 listed companies in Norway for the financial year 2024 must report on how their activities affect biodiversity and ecosystems around them (ESRS E4). This event, taking place in Stavanger, is a collaboration between NORCE Norwegian Research Centre, Universidad Austral de Chile, and Environmental NGO Sooo. Magazine, and the technology company Deep C. "Our work on the seabed is done in line with strict environmental requirements, but we as a technology company want to learn more about how our operations affect life on the seabed," says EVP Business Development Rune H. Rosnes at Deep C. "At the same time, we see that both we and our customers are subject to additional reporting requirements and need more information and understanding of marine life and ecosystems. By being challenged by the world's leading research communities, this could contribute to a more holistic approach for the ocean industry going forward”. Meet the Experts  Professor Thierry Baussant from NORCE will share insights from his extensive research on deep-sea corals. With many years of experience in the field, he will present some of the most significant findings to date.  Professor Sandor Mulsow, from Universidad Austral de Chile and former committee chair at the International Seabed Authority, known from the NRK documentary "Deep Rising," will provide us with an overview of his studies and experiences in seabed research. Tom Jacobsen (PhD), representing Deep C, has been a pioneer in seabed operations since the 1990s.
