Quick takeaways from yesterday's IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals Midyear Data Privacy Check-In with Rachael Ormiston and Joshua Vaughan, J.D., CIPP/US: (1) as of July 1, universal opt out is a requirement under Texas and Oregon laws and Colorado's requirement goes into effect as well; (2) data deletion-related complaints are the most common filed with the CPPA; (3) enforcement could come from a number of sources (FTC, state agencies (or in Texas a posse) or AG cross-state collaboration.

The law that has passed is emphasizing what’s called the “Right Of Action” which means corporations could be sued by individuals who can prove their privacy was compromised. This could create massive lawsuits, class action and individuals, and would put the burden on the corporations to prove that you did not violate their privacy. 15 states now have these rules.
