Thanks to T&D World for highlighting the CenterPoint Energy electric resiliency plan submitted last week to the Texas PUC. As T&D World notes, it's important that we resiliently provide #energyforwhatmattersmost to the greater Houston area: "The Greater Houston area is at risk of extreme weather events and continues to experience rapid population growth as well as strong economic expansion.  While the Greater Houston area incorporates about 2% of the geographic area of Texas, CenterPoint Energy's metered customers account for approximately 25% of the total electric load in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas region." https://lnkd.in/gWFptmNP

This week is #NationalCleanEnergyWeek - the celebration of the policies, industries, and innovations that power our daily lives. #Hydropower, the United State's original #renewable, is aiding the clean energy transition by providing 24/7, reliable energy to the nation, helping support the grid as additional renewables come online. The growth of renewables also comes with the need to build out additional long-duration energy storage. Closed-loop pumped storage, which was determined by National Renewable Energy Laboratory to be the greenest form of long-duration energy storage, offers the ability to restart the grid in the event of a blackout, as well as a host of other benefits. As we celebrate National Clean Energy Week, the contributions of #hydro, #PumpedStorage, and #MarineEnergy continue to ensure a clean and renewable future for all.

Flexible interconnection is becoming more popular as we integrate more distributed energy resources like batteries and solar panels into the grid. Local generation plants also play a key role in improving grid capacity, but connecting these diverse sources efficiently is a major challenge. The flexibility needed to manage these interconnections can drive up costs, and making sure the grid remains stable while balancing so many different inputs is no easy feat.
