The Stochastic Feedback Algorithm (SFA) is a statistical modeling algorithm for language acquisition designed and formulated by ExceLingo. The SFA is designed to bridge a gap between the performance of existing Speech Recognition (SR) technologies and the feedback requirements needed to facilitate smooth language acquisition. To eschew confusion, the SFA is not an SR solution in and of itself, but rather an innovate method for manipulating SR output to improve User Experience (UX) for Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). Designed originally for Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) the algorithm may be implemented on any computational system including PCs, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, GPS systems and other mobile devices as well as via a computer network using cloud computing. Furthermore, the SFA may be adapted for purposes other than language acquisition, namely for acquisition of any skill for which underdetermined User Input is manipulated to customize and tailor the progression of learning. This includes but is not limited to, pronunciation lessons, speech-impediment programs, memorization and rehearsal tasks, psychometric and psychotechnic standardized test preparation and recitations.
