Grace Hopper was instrumental in the development of compilers and COBOL. Her famous quote, «The most dangerous phrase in the language is 'we've always done it this way,'» calls for challenging the status quo when addressing complex or wicked problems. Hopper's quote manifests that software engineering requires innovation and flexibility rather than sticking to conventional methods that can limit problem-solving. 🏡 Exciting Progress in Black Homeownership Initiative! 🏡 The "3by30" housing goal is making significant strides in increasing Black homeownership rates to unprecedented levels. Despite the progress, there's still more work to be done to address historical disparities. Key developments include: ✅ Special purpose credit programs by lenders ✅ Forbearance and loss mitigation programs ✅ First-generation down payment assistance ✅ Expanded underwriting criteria ✅ Zoning reforms ✅ Increased availability of grants and low-cost home loans Not only does boosting Black homeownership benefit the community, but it could also potentially grow the U.S. economy by $5 trillion over the next five years! 💰 Closing the homeownership gap is crucial in addressing the nation's wealth gap, as homeowners have 40 times the wealth of renters. It's time for bold, aggressive action in housing policy to overcome the legacy of discriminatory practices and create greater wealth and opportunity for Black communities. 💪 Let's keep the conversation going! At the Cincinnati Cloud Native Meetup last night we talked a lot about platform engineering, internal development portals, and when it makes sense for an organization to make the investment. A couple of the highlights included: - An organization starts to have a need for this type of investment as they approach 100-150 developers. - James McShane shared that he had worked with an organization that invested in a team of 5 for about a year, but with great success. - "If you build it they will come" is not a viable strategy. Partnering with developers and getting leadership support is essential. The discussion reminded me a lot of the "Let a thousand flowers bloom" post about Twitter's journey back in 2015. In that post the author presents a hypothetical equation that shows the curve of productivity gains as your organization increases in size. In summary: - 10 engineers, devoting platform engineers hinders productivity - 100 engineers, devote 2 to platform = 101 engineers - 1000 engineers, devote 255 to platform = 1465 engineers https://lnkd.in/eJMNGnj9 Excited to continue to grow this community in Cincinnati!
