For those folks who really feel the desire to use private addresses despite the abundance of space in IPv6 allocations, here's some good news on the cloud side - "AWS announces the general availability of private IPv6 addressing for VPCs and subnets with Amazon VPC IP Address Manager (IPAM). On AWS, private IPv6 addresses can take the form of Unique Local IPv6 Unicast Addresses (ULA) and Global Unicast Addresses (GUA), and can only be used for private access. At #OffsetSymposium2024, and couldn’t agree more with Corey Jaskolski that wide-spread #cloud adoption across #DOD allows startups to scale more broadly, lowers their costs, allows them to move faster, and ultimately delivers more, saving the limited taxpayer dollars we have for #nationaldefense.

I recently enjoyed discussing #largevisionmodels (LVMs) with LandingAI CEO Andrew Ng and CNBC's Jon Fortt. #PureStorage made a strategic investment in LandingAI to help power the future of vision AI. I appreciated Andrew's insights on the importance of company leadership in identifying and deciding which projects to execute. Improving the state-of-the-art in large vision models and advancing artificial intelligence will be an exciting journey. Congratulations to Brian Stevens and the Neural Magic team and its announcement to be acquired by Red Hat. There are a couple of things that stand out with this announcement. 1) Neural Magic has capabilities that lead to easier deployment of open-source LLMs, which will tie in nicely with both IBM Granite Models and OpenShift. It could be a very effective bridge between the two actually. 2) I'd be particularly interested in seeing something like Sparse ML (and more ML models in general) under the Granite umbrella. I still maintain that the near-term ML possibilities remain stronger than that of LLMs, which are still in the early stages. Anyway, I think Matt Hicks and the team made an interesting call here, and it's another step towards an end-to-end open source AI platform.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is at war and Andy Jassy has a new consigliere Matt Garman. Amazon.com Inc. has strategically positioned Matt Garman as the new CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), much like a wartime consigliere in the vein of the iconic film "The Godfather." Garman assumes command in a critical era for AWS, marked by intense competition for cloud and AI supremacy. This period follows significant shifts brought about by the pandemic, a new wave of developers, and rapid advancements in generative AI technology. AWS finds itself in the midst of a fierce battleground, not only maintaining its cloud infrastructure leadership but also vying for dominance in the burgeoning AI sector. The one other wildcard in favor of AWS with Garman (besides being a product czar) is that he's very partner friendly which will be a key part of keeping AWS ahead.
