Graves, Ranking Member Cohen: The bipartisan 2024 FAA Re-Authorization Bill introduces transformative measures to enhance the safety and reliability of aircraft maintenance, particularly addressing concerns over foreign outsourcing of maintenance work. With a growing percentage of U.S. airline maintenance being conducted overseas, the bill includes critical provisions to ensure these facilities meet the same safety standards as their domestic counterparts. One of the most significant reforms is the requirement for drug and alcohol testing of all maintenance workers at foreign facilities performing work for U.S. airlines. Previously, these facilities were not subject to the same stringent testing protocols enforced within the United States. This new requirement closes a critical gap in aviation safety, ensuring that every individual contributing to the maintenance of U.S. aircraft operates under the highest standards of accountability and reliability. Additionally, the bill mandates more frequent FAA inspections of foreign maintenance facilities, ensuring compliance with U.S. standards. These inspections will verify adherence to safety protocols, worker qualifications, and equipment standards. The legislation also requires these facilities to retain detailed maintenance records, providing greater transparency and oversight. I always tell buyers the most important part of buying an aircraft is to understand the mission. It’s common for many buyers to either purchase “too much” or “too little” aircraft. As a result, the aircraft does not meet their needs or the cost of ownership is more than anticipated. NTSB Releases Report On Recent Delta Aircraft Collision At Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport The report states that during the collision, “the CRJ sustained lateral accelerations of 0.5 G left followed by 0.55 G right, and the CRJ’s heading was rotated about 9° clockwise.” A final report is awaited for this, which will give a conclusive decision about how this incident happened and steps to prevent something like this from happening again.
