Last night, I got to speak with my colleague and friend Lloyd Martin at the PMI Memphis's Monthly meeting. We got the opportunity to discuss Agile and Scrum, and my fear of not having enough content was quickly replaced with "Oh wow! We used the entire timeslot". The audience was engaged; the questions were great; and I'm told the feedback in is very positive so far. We told stories of successes and lessons learned from opportunities across Midsouth Fortune 500 companies that have shaped our careers; how we were a part of a team that turned a portfolio with "The greatest failure in ITOC history" into the introduction of the Scaled Agile Framework to an Enterprise over a decade ago and how it is still an integral part of the way work is done today; and educated an audience on a topic that we love. I'm grateful for Lloyd reaching out to me and telling me he couldn't give the topic without inviting me. The two hours went by to quickly. The thing that it reaffirmed in me was my love of Lean Agile education and training. It's the very reason I launched www.afterhoursagility.com. I know that everyone has busy schedules and 9-5; and it certainly feels like training budgets are not as high as they once were in the realm of Agile training and Agile certification. But I know I'm meant to continue to help make good teams great. So, I'll end my grateful post with this; if you ever wanted to get a SAFe certification; but your company cannot afford training at the moment. If you feel like 8 hours a day in a monotonous Zoom call is not for you. If you want a teacher that is going to weave in real world examples to content; consider joining my cohort style versions of the training. This month, my first cohort will tackle the SAFe Scrummaster 6.0 course. We will meet 4 hours a week at a time that works for the cohort, for 4-6 weeks. We will cover the content; and have a great discussion; you will feel confident as you choose to take the examination. I'd love to see you there. As 2024 wraps up, I’ve been reflecting on a year filled with growth, learning, and just the right amount of “character-building moments” (you know, the kind that make you wonder if coffee counts as a food group). This year, I proudly checked off two major milestones by earning my PMP (Project Management Professional) and PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) certifications. Translation: I’m now fluent in both waterfall and agile—and can confirm that managing people and projects is equal parts science and art (and maybe a little magic). Beyond the certifications, I’ve spent time focusing on my growth as a leader. Leadership isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about understanding people, creating clarity in chaos, and—let’s be honest—sometimes having the perfect GIF to lighten the mood. I’m incredibly grateful for the amazing mentors and leaders who’ve guided me this year, as well as the brilliant people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside. Looking ahead to 2025, I’m excited to continue sharpening my skills in delivery excellence and leadership (and maybe find a few more coffee alternatives along the way).
