📢 Staffing Firms Take Notice 🛑 Sending unsolicited, mass emails claiming to have "perfect candidates" is not an effective way to gain business. It often leads to an immediate email block. As soon as a job goes live, the spamming starts. If you truly have a strong candidate, strip the unnecessary resume details and send a personalized message that reflects an understanding of the company’s growth, culture, needs and your success placing similar talent at competitors. Take the time to research the companies you’re contacting and approach them with relevant and personalized solutions. Building professional relationships always beats generic emails. Too often, emails I receive—mostly from Texas-based firms with minimal U.S. presence—are the same generic spam. Candidates deserve better, and so do companies. Thank you for considering a more thoughtful approach.

While SHRM's shift to emphasize inclusion is commendable, removing "equity" from the acronym feels like a step backward. I feel that equity is crucial for creating truly inclusive workplaces where everyone can grow and be sucessful. As the saying goes, "You can't spell 'inclusion' without 'E' - for equity!" Recent research shows that organizations with strong equity practices see 5.4 times higher employee retention and 1.5 times more likely to report increased revenue. Equity is definitely a business imperative. Instead of dropping the "E," perhaps we could evolve to "IED" - Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity. This maintains the focus on inclusion while keeping equity front and center. After all, true inclusion requires equitable practices and systems. What do you think? As Talent Professionals, do you know what your employees and potential candidates want? It boils down to 3 factors: 💲 Compensation Transparency 💪 Workplace Flexibility 🎓 Career Development and Advancement Don't believe me? Back in 2023 SHRM conducted a study and found that out of 1,500 professionals, 37% said that in order to stay at their organization, they would need at LEAST a 12% pay increase. But, it's not all about money. Owl Labs worked with the Global Workplace Analytics to survey 2,300 workers. They found that 52% of workers said they would take a pay cut of 5% or more for increased workplace flexibility. Coming off my post yesterday, we also know that Career Development and Advancement is very important for Gen Z and Millennials. They want to know what's next and where they can go. I worked with a local Grand Rapids company that had just completed a multi-year project in defining Career Advancement from their new graduate roles ALL THE WAY UP ⬆ to Director level positions in the company. A LITERAL MAP was in place and was a HUGE selling point for passive talent. Again, it's never a one-size solution, but we need to be equipped with various levers we can pull to engage and retain. This article shares a recent study that found those over 60 in the US are the happiest age group. It also attempts to illustrate how the workplace impacts those over 60 in a more positive way than perhaps the rest of us... Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. - Brene Brown When I think about my journey, specifically honing in on my addiction with alcohol, I often times wonder how I am sitting here 9 years sober. I will acknowledge that I have a tribe surrounding me in all aspects of my life and resources available to me, if needed. But, if anyone knows addiction, it takes WAY more than having good resources... One thing that separates my journey from many other unique paths, is that I am 100% transparent with my struggles, failures, embarrassing moments and lowest of lows. It sounds easy, but being fully honest with your own self can be the hardest thing you will ever have to do. Looking at yourself in the mirror, when you have no one else to blame but yourself, can bring you to your knees. Embracing our vulnerabilities and failures is risky but "only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light." When that light is discovered and pointed out to the darkness, so other people can find their way too, there is nothing more powerful and motivating. So although being your authentic self is one of the most risky games you will ever play, I promise you will come out victorious. Who knows...you just might march out of the darkness leading an entire tribe out of hell. 💪 I am not ashamed to say I once had a problem with alcohol. What was once something I was embarrassed by, hiding from, has become one of my greatest blessings.

People often rush to use up their days in December, which can create operational challenges. By being proactive now, you can help your team balance their personal time with our business needs, creating a smoother, more productive end-of-year period. Encouraging people to plan their time off doesn’t just support our operations; it’s a sign of respect for everyone’s well-being. When team members feel empowered to take the breaks they’ve earned, they’re more likely to return with fresh perspectives, renewed energy, and a positive mindset that benefits everyone. A well-rested team is a resilient team. So, let’s help each other finish the year strong. Make sure to lead by example and consider planning your own time off as well! When we prioritize balance, we create a culture where hard work and self-care coexist, setting everyone up for success as we move into the new year.
