OK #agency peeps, we've chatted about $0-$10K/mo, $20-$50K/mo, $50-$150K/mo, $150K-$500K/mo & how to know if you might be ready for an exit (link to all in comments). Today, we are continuing with the series...#agencyacquisition - how to find a buyer. Things to know: 1. Selling your #marketingagency is not fun. (Apparently, I was on vacation with my family at the tail end of my 1st acquisition...truly, I do not remember a minute of it, and I don't recognize any of the pictures of me from that vacation). 2. Selling gets easier when you know what you want to get out of the sale. The chances of getting FU money is pretty low. But you can absolutely get money that will change your life. So you need to start with what is the minimum amount of money that it will take for you to stop chasing your dream and start supporting someone else's. Assuming that you know what your floor is, there are a couple of buyers types to think about: 1. Strategic: You do something they don't, or you serve a complimentary market that they don't. Usually, you get the best acquisition terms here. 2. Marketshare Buyer: This is a buyer who does what you do, and they want your top line revenue. This is usually the easiest kind of sale, but they tend to be less lucrative. The strategic buyer will likely want you, as the CEO of the biz, to hand around and lead the team since they don't do what you do. The marketshare buyer probably wants you to go away. When you are searching for a potential buyer, sort the world into two --> Strategic Buyers & Marketshare Buyers. Getting a buyer to know you exist isn't complicated. Just email the CEO or Corp dev or head of sales...they will get you in front on the right person. But generally speaking, before you need to talk to anyone, you should have a sense of: 1. Their size (if they aren't at least as big as you are, it is going to be hard to swallow you) 2. How you fit: • Marketplace buyer is pretty simple - we will take your revenue from X to Y, and add $Z in EBITDA to your biz • Strategic buyer is harder - you need to create a story about how your service aligns with what you do, and how easy it would be to cross sell what you do to their existing clients and vice-versa. A great place to look for a marketplace buyer is anyone that is bigger than you are that you respect. But they can't be too much bigger - a $1mm agency means nothing to a $15B agency holding company. Start looking for strategic buyers amongst the other agencies and service providers at your existing clients - that shared connection makes for an easy starter convo.

Local SEO is not just for local “store” pages. It can also be a very powerful content play. Growth Skills first Fractional Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) client is an incredible THC Seltzer and ecommerce brand. It’s Hemp based and federally legal under the 2018 U.S Farmbill. As their Fractional CMO I use SEO to drive the most revenue and we have grown revenue monthly by 49% if you compare when we started in March to now. We are working on cracking paid media as well, but for now SEO is the work horse. All metrics including website visitor, email signups, sales, revenue and keyword rankings have grown tremendously. One of the SEO strategies we are using is to use articles to dominate local searches with high intent. -THC Drinks in Nashville  -THC Drinks in LA To get people to visit and buy from the local store or to take a chill pill, stay home, and let us ship you a Wunderful experience. All the local articles that rank have generated revenue with over 3x return on the cost of each single article. Plus, additional lifetime value since customers repeat purchase. How we do it: 🥋 -GA4 Location: Pulled the top states that website visitors come from -Keyword Research: Analyzed the local terms with conversion intent -Distribution: Looked at the states that we are in stores or bars like Nashville, TN -Article Briefs: Used A.I tools to reverse engineer what it would take to rank and created a tight article brief. -Human Writer: Used a category expert writer to write the content. -Article Publishing: Generate 12+ articles a month. This process let's us out rank major sites like Weedmaps and claim the top three positions usually number one. It also works well because Google AI Overviews are not as prominent on these types of local searches so you can get a proper position one. You can use this strategy for many different industries. We are about to do it for a new Credit Union client. I’m going to do a video on how we are using content for competitive conquesting in SEO for this brand. It is scarily effective because if someone is searching for "drink like competitor name" and we show up. The intent is thirst quencingly good. 🍹 I hope you take my advice to the bank. When I was COO at an 8-figure DTC agency, I eliminated 80% of our agency's QA process. Here's why: Most agencies have a dedicated QA person catching mistakes at the end of projects. You think this person is increasing quality, and lowering your costs... but the truth is the opposite. It's costing you money and lowering quality. Here's what actually happens: 1. QA breeds complacency When someone else checks everything, people get sloppy. They know mistakes will be caught. 2. QA wastes your best talent. Usually the QA person is the highest skilled person. Your top performers should be driving value, not finding errors. 3. QA slows everything down Extra steps = longer turnaround times. 4. QA prevents skill development People don't learn from mistakes they never see. And rarely do QA’s look to fix the root cause of the mistake… they just want to fix whatever issue they found. Here's how to fix it: 1. Make everyone responsible for their own work Each team member should ensure 100% accuracy before handing off tasks. 2. Focus on process improvement When errors occur, fix the root cause. Gradually reduce formal QA as processes improve. This creates ownership and pride in output. 3. Shift mindset from "QA will catch it" to "get it right the first time" This removes safety net mentality. It will increase overall quality and attention to detail. 4. Implement cross-functional QA Have the next person in the workflow do basic QA Designers check copy, implementers verify design, etc. You can also have the team lead QA a small percentage of projects as you transition. 4. Reallocate your top talent Your best people are often doing QA. Move them to high-value client work instead. Warning: Don't eliminate QA overnight. It takes TIME to transition to this model. But the Result: Higher quality work, faster turnaround, and more efficient use of top talent. What's your take? Is QA helping or hurting your business?

People think they will beat the system using AI. That it's easier, saves time. I'm curious, does your #SEO use AI to write your website content? Do you think #Google doesn't know the difference between AI generated content and the real thing? It does. And in my opinion, Google prefers content written by a human. A person who is familiar with the topic they are writing about, preferably an expert. How did I come up with this theory?
