🚨 Coinbase Fined $4.5M by UK Regulator for Serving High-Risk Customers 🚨 📉 Coinbase’s subsidiary, CB Payments Limited (CBPL), has been fined $4.5 million by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for failing to strengthen its defences against financial crime. Despite an agreement to improve financial crime controls and avoid new high-risk clients, CBPL continued to serve 13,416 high-risk customers, who collectively deposited $24.9 million and transacted $226 million in crypto assets. ⚖️ The FCA highlighted that CBPL had significant weaknesses in its financial controls, failing to design, test, implement, and monitor them effectively. This fine, the first of its kind in the UK’s crypto sector, serves as a stern warning to the industry about the importance of robust financial crime controls.
